Gift-Giving Opportunities
The community foundation is the perfect vehicle for all kinds of donors - individuals, families, corporations, private foundations, and nonprofit organizations.  The South Haven Community Foundation has the ability to establish funds that meet many different charitable objectives, many times achieving surprising tax benefits for donors.

The beauty of humanity is that no two persons are the same; similarly, no two funds in our foundation are the same.  Each fund bears its own name, making it the perfect memorial or honorarium opportunity.  Chosen by the donor, a fund may be established in the name of a loved one, a corporation, or a family.  Funds may even be established anonymously.

To meet the needs of our donors' dreams and desires, the following types of founds are offered:

Unrestricted Funds:
An unrestricted fund would be your choice if you are concerned about community needs.  This type of fund enables the granting committee of the South Haven Community Foundation to award a broad range of grants, based on the ever-changing needs of the greater South Haven area.  Unrestricted funds include:

South Haven Community Foundation/Heritage Fund
The SHCF Heritage Fund registry is in memory of and to honor community residents, both part and full time, who should be remembered as part of the tradition and heritage of the South Haven Community.

South Haven Community Foundation Youth Advisory Committee Fund
The SHCF Youth Advisory Committee Fund is a chance for South Haven youth to become involved in the grant-making process.  High school-age students from the South Haven area accept grant proposals for programs that will benefit youth in the area and then choose those proposals that best fit the criteria that they set up.  Accepted proposals are then approved by the SHCF Board of Trustees.  For more information, visit YAC's website at

Field of Interest Funds:
If your area of interest is education, the arts, youth, recreation, conservation, or some other specific field of interest, a $5,000 contribution will serve to establish a new interest-specific fund in your name.

Donor-Advised Funds:
This fund allows you to play a very active role in determining the distribution of grants.  These funds are an excellent choice for individuals or corporations with at least $5,000 to invest and who have considered a private foundation but want to avoid excise taxes, payout requirements and administrative responsibilities.

Designated and Scholarship Funds:
If you have a desire to create long-term stability and donor tax benefit incentives for one or more particular non-profit organizations, a designated fund is the vehicle for you.  With a permanent endowment fund established in its name, the organization enjoys income forever, while you assist them in carryount out their mission.

Your scholarshipfund can provide several different opportunities for greater South Haven area residents.  You may award scholarships for attendancde at a specific school, to support a particular course of study, or to assist a particular high school.

The following designated funds and scholarship funds have been established:

Grace Calvin Scholarship Fund
Michael Listiak Scholarship Fund
South Haven Center for the Arts
Al-Van Humane Society Fund
