POEMS/If I Could, Then I Would...
IF I COULD, THEN I WOULD
March 17, 2002
If I could, then I would
Take back all the bad things I've said
If I could, then I would
Right all the wrong things I've done
But I'm burning up fast
There's no way to stop it
Time is ticking now
And I'm ready to blow up
If I could, then I would
Make amends to people I've hurt
If I could, then I would
Make their lives a little better
But I'm spinning so fast
There's no way to stop it
I'm regretting it all now
Don't mean to be such a bitch
If I could go back to the past
I would have done things differently
But I've made my mistakes now
No way to turn back my life
I'm plunging right on ahead
But believe me when I say
I'm regretting it all now
Believe me when I say
If I could, then I would
insight
I'm not perfect. Meaning, there are times when I treat people harshly without meaning to. But that doesn't change the fact that what I have done's wrong. I wrote this poem to express the regret I've felt over the things I've done in the past. What triggered this? I lost my temper and scolded our help over a small matter. I was tired and had a bad day but that's no excuse. In my room, I felt bad about what I did and I remembered how hurtful it feels to be treated that way. I should know. Some of the customers are so impolite, rude, snooty and downright cruel for no reason at all.
