(2001-2002)

The votes have been cast and the result is out!!

Paul L from Australia is the winning participant of this year's Cricket Oscars with 10 of his votes matching with the final winning players' list. Congratulations Paul! Check out Paul's favorite cricketer's page!

Best Fast Bowler Award - Shaun Pollock
It was the most closely contested category with Shaun winning the honors over Glenn McGrath by 1 vote! And mind you, I didn't participate in the Oscars else Shaun would've won by 2 votes!

Best Spinner Award - Shane Warne
Warnie got 60% of the votes while about 30% went to Murlitharan

Best Batsman Award - Sachin Tendulkar
I guess its quite a fair call, 40% voted for Tendulkar  27% for Steve Waugh and there were also some votes for players like Adam Gilchrist, Jacques Kallis and Matt Hayden.

Best Fielder Award - Jonty Rhodes
'Mr. Livewire' still rules! Rhodes received more than 70% of the votes though Ricky Ponting did cause a flutter during the later stages of the voting.

Best All rounder Award - Shaun Pollock
Now I love this! Shaun wins another award Jacques Kallis is second and Adam Gilchrist third, followed by Lance Klusener.

Best Wicketkeeper Award - Adam Gilchrist
This was almost a 2 man race with Mark Boucher losing out by 4 votes.

Best Runner Between Wickets Award - Jonty Rhodes
Jonty received 53% of the votes and Michael Bevan was second with 42% votes.

Best Captain Award - Steve Waugh
Steve Waugh clearly topped with 61% votes and Shaun getting 37%

Best International Team Award - Australia
Coincidently, the percentage of votes in this category was exactly the same as the Best Captain Award (so a captain is only as good as the team??). It was quite a close thing initially but Australia had a massive jump from December 2001 onwards.

Best Umpire Award - Steve Bucknor
Gees! Was this one tough! All three (Venkat, Shephard and Bucknor) seemed to be going at par initially but Mr Bucknor won it eventually!

The Lone Warrior Award - Sachin Tendulkar
Tendulkar got 33% votes, Brian Lara received 24% while Andy Flower was a close third with 21% votes.

I Love Trouble Award - Shane Warne
Now if Warne won the Best Spinner Award by a large margin, what do say about this one! He way ahead of everyone else....Gibbs did pose a little threat initially but as time passed by, it was the blond Ozzie who won! Maybe coz Gibbs stopped, but Warne goes on forever! LOL!

John McEnroe Award - Glenn McGrath
Pigeon got 60% of the votes with Saurav Ganguly providing little competition with a mere 20% (and I was quite surprised by that!) Ponting still has a lot of catching up to do!

The Most Good Looking Cricketer - I received as many as 20 names for this particular category! And since the guys didn't vote for this one, I think is only fair not to include this category to find out the winning participant. Anyway, as far as the winning player is concerned, he's none other that Shaun Pollock (once again!!) Brett Lee is second and Mark Boucher third. Neil McKenzie and Daniel Vettori are fourth with equal number of votes. The other players who were voted for are (in no particular order) - Darren Gough, Jonty Rhodes, Steve Waugh, Allan Mulally, Mike Kasprowicz, Herschelle Gibbs, Jacques Kallis, Dirk Viljoen, Justin Langer, Glenn McGrath, Michael Slater, Heath Streak, Jason Gillespie, Chris Cairns and Graeme Smith.
