YAY!! What more do I say? Shaun
offered to do an exclusive interview for this website and needless to say, I was
over the moon!
No
wonder, it was hard for me to decide what I should be asking him! (there is so much we want to know, isn't it!!) Eventually, I thought of asking stuff that you won't usually find in a Sports interview, but at the same time, respecting the fact that everyone is entitled to a private life
(this is very important folks!) So this is what Shaun Pollock had to
say -

What has been your best cricketing
moment so far?
What is the funniest incident that
you've been involved in or witnessed while playing ? In 1998 against Australia, following a flurry of wickets, I had to rush to put on my pads and get on to the field. As it turned out I went out to bat with my pants on the wrong way around. I probably would have been saved the embarrassment had Steve Waugh not pointed it out to me.

The importance of God and family in your life.........
My faith is at the centre of my life... It helps me to keep things balanced and puts everything in perspective. During the bad times I draw strength from Jesus Christ and during the good times I like to remember that He gave me the talent to achieve in this sport. Without my faith I know that I wouldn't bounce back from the everyday trials a sportsman endures. He has blessed me with a wonderfully supportive and close family and I have the most awesome friendship with my wife, Tricia.
The song you've chosen for your entrance on the field and the reasons for
selecting it........
The song is Nkalakatha by a South African artist, Mandoza. I'm told that the Zulu words mean "here comes the chief" and the UCB thought it quite appropriate for the captain. I personally enjoy the "South African-ness" about it. At least I can walk out to bat to the beat of the music and enjoy it!
Tell us something about your culinary skills (could Tricia comment on
that!)The truth is I hardly spend enough time at home to develop my culinary skills but I have attempted bran muffins and macaroni cheese with some success. On the tour of Australia the team found a brilliant Indian restaurant in Melbourne called "the Clove" which has the most amazing Chicken Korma. I asked the owner for the recipe and I've promised my wife I'll cook her a birthday dinner this year. That, I'm afraid is the limited extent of it! Tricia: "He's enthusiastic about cooking, but not about cleaning up afterwards so as a result we eat out a lot!" |
Your favorite holiday spot and why?
I enjoy the Garden Route along the Cape coast in SA because it combines natural beauty with outdoor adventure. I've just bought property in St Francis Bay which is like SA's little Venice and look forward to spending many summer days there in the future.

The names of the pets you've kept so far......(this may be a little bit of a memory test!) Benjy: the most
intelligent, athletic, well-mannered Jack Russell (maybe a touch
biased).

quite surprising to find out about this site and I really appreciate Deepti's
contribution. May each of you continue to enjoy watching South African Cricket.
God Bless,
