Shaun Pollock has won the the prestigious South African Bureau of Standards
Silver Medal. The award is made annually to a South African who has made an
excellent contribution to South Africa during the past year.
Pollock received the award for his excellent and successful leadership style of
the South African cricket team.
In a statement that was released by the UCBSA, Gerald Majola said, "We are
exceptionally proud that Shaun has received this award and that he makes such an
effort to set a wonderful example to all South Africans. Congratulations, Shaun,
you continue to inspire us."
Eugene Julies who is the President of the SABS agreed that Shaun had won the
award for his "outstanding leadership and inspiration.", before going
on that Shaun for performing the "difficult task of repairing South
Africa's sporting image in the international arena and his efforts to improve
the quality of South African cricket in general."
Shaun was unable to attend to receive his award due to prior engagements but
said during a televised address that he was very pleased to have won the SABS
stamp of approval.
