Shaun Pollock took three quick wickets to ruin Durham's run chase and
help Warwickshire to a 44-run victory at Chester-le-Street.
The all-rounder followed up his sprightly cameo innings with a match haul of
3-29 in his nine overs during a low scoring match.
Pollock had Gary Pratt caught behind by wicketkeeper Keith Piper and pinned
fellow-opener Nicky Peng lbw when Durham, chasing 208 for victory, had just
eight runs on the board.
The South African captain followed that up by dismissing Paul Collingwood soon
after.
Martin Love offered some resistance with 36 from 44 balls, but Neil Smith
trapped him lbw for the first of his three wickets as he claimed 3-25.
Piper then pulled off three smart stumpings to remove Jon Lewis, Andrew Pratt
and Martin Gough.
Graeme Bridge (31) and Ian Hunter (24) rallied Durham with a late flourish, but
the damage had already been done.
Earlier, Ian Bell had shrugged off the disappointment of being overlooked by
England by hitting a composed half ton in the face of some tight Durham bowling.
The 20-year-old struck four boundaries in his 72 off 107 deliveries as his side
made 207-7.
Hunter struck early to trap Michael Powell lbw with the score on four, but
Pollock broke the shackles to hit two sixes and two fours in his brief innings
of 25 before falling to the same bowler.
Nick Knight and Jamie Troughton fell in swift succession as Durham chipped away.
But Bell played sensibly to put on 69 for the fifth wicket with Trevor Penney
before he was caught by Hunter off the bowling of Collingwood.
Penney tried to keep the score ticking over but he was removed by Collingwood
for 29 as the all-rounder finished with figures of 2-31 off five overs.
