Polly In The Field For A Long Partnership

Durban - While fans waited patiently outside the church to see their hero on Saturday, the new golden boy of South African cricket, Shaun Pollock, tied the knot with his beautiful fiancée, Tricia Lauderdale.

The caretaker captain of the national cricket squad, who lists his favorite book as The Partner, now has a partner for life, the girl he proudly boasts did not win his heart but "stole it".

The 30-minute informal ceremony at St Martin's in the Field Church in Durban North was one of the society weddings of the year, attended by celebrity cricketers, coaches and personalities.

The groom was first to arrive, and posed for family pictures outside the church with best man Gavin, his older brother.

"Was the groom nervous," we asked the best man?

"No, he is used to being center stage," joked his brother.

Then came cricketers Jonty Rhodes, Andrew Hudson, Mark Boucher, Mornantau Hayward, Doug Watson, followed by South African coach Graham Ford and Natal cricket manager Dennis Carlstein.

The groom's dad, Peter Pollock, and his uncle, Graeme Pollock, also famous cricketers, had already taken up their places in the church.

Finally came the moment everyone had been waiting for: the arrival of the bride Tricia, a former beauty queen and a finalist in the l993 Miss South Africa pageant.

The soon-to-be Mrs Pollock had chosen "shades of gold" for her theme and had designed her own dress, which was made by Romona Waterman of Kloof.

She looked every bit the fairy-tale bride in her flattering, elegant snowy white full-length gown, with narrow straps and a row of pearls at the hem.

As the newlyweds left the church, they stopped and posed for their official wedding pictures against a backdrop of white tulle. Shaun kissed his wife, then after another photographic session outside, left with her for a reception in a marquee at Mount Edgecombe Country Club.

They are now honeymooning in Mauritius.
