MATCH OF THE YEAR: South African cricket skipper Shaun Pollock, 26, closed
his singles innings when he declared his love for stunning Tricia Lauderdale,
27, at St Martin In The Fields Anglican Church in Durban North yesterday.
Teammates, including vice-captain Mark Boucher and Jonty Rhodes, pitched up to
see Pollock perform some neat footwork down the aisle. Lance Klusener, who ties
the knot next weekend, could not attend.
Pollock and Lauderdale became an item after South Africa's disappointing tour of
England in 1998.
Lauderdale is the KwaZulu-Natal marketing manager of a cellphone company that
sponsors the national team. The blonde former model was placed in the top five
in the Miss South Africa contest in 1993, but gave up modeling to concentrate on
her career.
'She's very special,' said Pollock as he described how he got down on his knees
next to a stream in the southern Drakensberg eight months ago to ask for her
hand in marriage. The reception was held at the elite Mt Edgecombe Country Club.
