Shaun Pollock has changed his mind and will now attend the United Cricket
Board's national indaba scheduled for next Tuesday in Johannesburg.
Pollock's original plan, dictated by his commitments this winter for England
county side Warwickshire, was to participate in a telephone linkup from England.
There had been talk of video conferencing before the captain finally decided to
play a full role in the April 23 discussion involving 35 players, commentators
and administrators.
"I was always going to be involved in the indaba," Pollock said on
Wednesday night, "but I've now decided to attend in person."
"It's an important event for South African cricket and I know better than
anyone what's happened to our cricket this season."
South Africa have had a disastrous summer, with world champions Australia
winning the two-legged Test series 3-0 in Australia and 2-1 in South Africa, and
also triumphing 5-1 in the one-day international series here.
South Africa's only bright moment came when they won the VB one-day series in
Australia.
"I may not have the final answer," Pollock conceded, "but I will
be able to make a big contribution to the debate and there's clearly a lot to
discuss."
Pollock was originally scheduled to fly to England on Friday, but will now fly
on the evening after the indaba.
"I'll arrive early on Wednesday and go immediately into my first match for
Warwickshire that morning.
"It's not ideal, but the indaba is an important event and I don't want to
miss it," Pollock said.
