My Former Bikes

Mountain Bikes

My first "real" mountain bike was a 1999 Trek 8000SL hardtail ... it was awesome, my first aluminum frame, all of the top Shimano components, front suspension, a nice blue colour ... it served me well for two years.  Here are a couple of pics ...

I then decided to go the full suspension route, especially when I walked into Ramsay's in Sydney and saw a beautiful, shiny, new 2000 FSR XC Stumpjumper Comp.  I damn near collapsed at the sight of it, and after begging (read bugging!) my wife for some weeks, I got the green light to take 'er home.  Here's the pics ...

Coming Soon!

This was a great bike and I really regret selling it to this day.  I did so to finance the building of my dream road bike, but in hindsight it was a bad move (I hope you're reading this Kevin, and enjoying that damn bike)!  It handled so well, I had made some serious upgrades to it and had it dialed in right where it fit like a glove.  Not to mention, it was a beauty, especially with the black tires (the red Panaracers are what you see in these pics).  But, c'est la vie!

My current bike is brand new, a 2004 Trek 8500 hardtail.  I decided to go the hardtail route because it was cheaper than full suspension and I had a beef with my FSR, that being pedal bob.  However, from what I've read over the past year, all of the new FS bikes have more or less SPV (stable platform valve) technology which has all but eliminated the dreaded bob ... so perhaps a Fuel or Epic may pop up on this page in the not too distant future!

Road Bikes

In 2001, I purchased my first road bike since I was a kid and when I first rode it I was amazed ... it was so very different from what I remembered.  It weighed a quarter of my Canadian Tire 10 speed but was so much stiffer and responsive.  I was immediately hooked.  Here it is, a 1999 Cannondale R800 ...

My second road bike was a 2002 Trek 2300, starry night, 56 cm, Bontrager Race Lite wheelset, full Ultegra groupset, it was a very nice bike.  However, it was stiff as hell!
