Dak -er -saaj , (ie dress made of 'dak') is made of Indian cork (Æschynomena Paludosa) ,commonly known as 'dak' or 'shola'. Coloured foils & decorative materials are also used to enhance it's beauty.The distintive style of decorating idols was originally created by the brothers Kalinath & Nilmoni Acharya of Birnagar (Palitpara) -- a small town & railway station 20 Kms. south of Krishnanagar.
