Heather Murray is a Chatsworth Ontario mixed media artist who is inspired and driven to create. A simpler world is her vision. She cuts pastes, paints and assembles what moves her and captures her attention. Incorporating older vintage imagery evokes a strange, familiar beauty when intersecting past with present. Women and children figure prominently. Positioned in tandem with contemporary messages and visuals her art takes on a whole new meaning. Do gentle messages passed through time still resonate in our souls? Collage and assemblage bring out the inner scavenger in her, and she savors discarded finds and utilizes found objects in new enticing ways. Her roots stem from an editorial illustration background when she attended the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto, Ontario. History, loss, hope, spirituality and humour are re occurring themes in her art. The story behind her subject is always the question. She continues to experiment and to play out of her studio in the Old Courthouse Arts building in Owen Sound.
