Modified Uchida's Method
Uchida's method of female sterilization involves subserosal dissection and excision of 5 cm length of the fallopian tube for female sterilization. Then the medial end is ligated and buried between the two leaves of the mesosalpinx, while the lateral end is ligated and left in the peritoneal cavity . The edges of the mesosalpinx in between is closed with a continuous stitch of an absorbable material. This method has a zero failure rate. But its potential for reversal is also very low, because of loss of 5 cm length of the fallopian tube. I perform the operation as described above, with the only difference that no part of the fallopian tube is excised. It is just divided between two hemostats after subserosal dissection. The ligated ends are treated the same way as in the original operation. This way the failure rate is maintained at zero, while the potential for reversal is greatly improved.
