Gynecologic management is software program that is meant for consulting obstetricians and gynecologists for management of difficult cases in which a second opinion is wanted. It is also for resident doctors in training, because it helps them understand patient management better, and also helps them prepare for their examinations.
The program has a list of more than 50 conditions that a gynecologist sees in his/her patients. These are the presenting complaints or symptoms. Starting from them, there is an algorithmic approach to the problem at hand. The computer keeps asking questions about the given patient, and provides a number of possible answers for each. The user has to select the most appropriate for the given patient, after which the computer asks another question about the patient’s symptoms, or clinical examination findings. Later, the computer advises a test, and based on the result of the test, it advises another test and so on, until it makes a positive diagnosis. Then it tells the best method of management of the condition diagnosed. Thus it is an interactive program, in which the user has to feed information about a given patient, and gets help on management. It is a decision making program. It is what a clinician does in his mind every time he/she gets a patient. This program is written by a clinician of twenty one years of clinical experience, and all his mental algorithms are in this program. Furthermore, it is possible that a given symptom may be due to a number of different conditions, and the same diagnosis can be reached starting from different symptoms. All those links are given in this program, so that the user reaches the diagnosis, no matter from which symptom he/she starts.
A resident or student can learn from it both during patient management, and while studying, by trying out different answers for the computer’s questions.
The program runs on Windows 95/ 98/ ME.
This is a demo version. Only ‘Primary Amenorrhoea’ in the drop-down list works. For the full version, you need to get in touch with me.
