Himanshu Jyothi Kala Peetha
I did my pre-kindergarten at
Himamshu Jyothi Vidya Kala Peetha in
Malleshwaram, Bangalore. I must have been around 4-5 years old then.
The influence it had on me? I still remember looking forward to school
everyday! Some of my earliest memories are of sitting in class with
other kids, furiously sketching on paper with crayons. Or of riding the
swings in the school's huge playground.
I also clearly remember all the kids sitting down for lunch at
lunchtime. It used to be in this elongated room with red-oxide
flooring. The floor was cold all the time (Yes, we sat on the floor. No
dining tables or chairs back then). All the kids would open their cute
lunchboxes. Every lunchbox would be plastered all around with cartoon
designs. And invariably every kid would use plastic spoons. That was
the rage back then (sigh).
Some advanced lunchbox models featured grooves in which the spoon could
fit.
Actually, I recently
went back to take a look at my earliest alma mater, and I was shocked.
That huge playground where I
played on the swings, and dug deep in the sand looking for water, was
actually just the school backyard. It made me realize how strong an
effect early memories can have on perception.
