Radisson and Des Groseilliers

Pierre Esprit Radisson and Médard Chouart Des Groseilliers are heroes of mythical proportions in the history of the fur trade in New France. In their lifetimes, both had their shares of disgrace and glory. They are represented here at the entrance of Fort Charles (Fort Rupert), the first trading post established by the Hudson Bay Company. These two Frenchmen were instrumental in creating and implementing this English company on the shores of Hudson Bay.
