Jive & MTV ''Secret Diary''
April 17, 2001

Backstreet Boys' fans...listen up! A limited edition an MTV VCD of your favorite boyband is now available as a special gift from the Backstreet Boys when you purchase their hugely popular "Black & Blue" album. This limited edition pack will only be available in Asia, launching this month in Taiwan, India, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Dubai, Korea, Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong.
This collaboration between Jive and MTV is a fresh, unprecedented cooperation focused on providing fans with the greatest, most unique footage available -- digging deep into the archives to create a truly "Secret Diary" package for the fans. This is the boys' way of saying "Thank You" to all their fans in Asia and to MTV for their continued support since the very beginning.

"This exclusive VCD produced by MTV is a special treat for Backstreet Boys' fans. It's the band's way of saying a big 'thank you' to their legion of fans in Asia who have supported them throughout their illustrious career," said Ryan Wright, Managing Director, Zomba Records Asia-Pacific.

Joji George, MTV Asia's account director for licensing & merchandising (audio), said: "This is a unique gift from the Boys and MTV is proud to be a part of this project. This is the first time MTV has teamed up with a record label to produce a special edition album. It's fantastic for our MTV Asian viewers and fans to have the chance to own 'a piece of MTV.'"

Hailed by Rolling Stones magazine as "the Biggest Band in the World" today, the Backstreet Boys became the first group in music history to sell five million copies of an album in only one week. Their fourth studio album, "Black & Blue" has been a phenomenal success all around the world. It continues to be the best selling album in Asia with over 2.3 million units sold since its release in November last year. They also set a new precedent by becoming the first music artist in Soundscan history to have two consecutive albums (Millennium and Black & Blue) top one million units in sales in their debut week. The album achieved platinum status in 22 countries and gold certification in 10 regions around the world in the first week of release.

The Backstreet Boys have sold more than 55 million albums in the last three years and won the "Best Group" award at last year's MTV Europe Music Awards in Stockholm. -- Lennat Mak
