Summer's End
Lake is mirror for hills, trees, sky
All so understandably vain
Reflecting the loss, they weep, cry
Weeping willow's boughs show the strain
Winter's time is so surely nigh
Announced with such vibrant gold hues
The geese in flight go flocking by
Lady autumn pays well her dues
Shadows grow ever dark and long
Wild ones their furrier coats grow
The wind sings a different song
Through the trees with their amber glow
Gather the harvest, cut the wood
Earth's final blessings before sleep
This saddens, but it's right and good
Winter hurries, he does not creep
Feel the palpalble change in air
Feel the pressure change, in your bones
Note the way Earth's blessed prepare
To await next spring by hearthstones
And grow closer together, in our lair
Our family, and friends tend a fire bright
That's more than the flame that warms
Winter's flame is nourished inside
When we shelter, we folk in our homes
Our lovely giving, breathing sphere
Soon to be cloaked in purest white
She becomes demure, so austere
Opposite of Summer's day bright
There, we know earth's balance is true
Just as is day to the dark night
And as old surrenders to new
