Day's Benediction
A sweeter pleasure I'll never know
Than to spy the last of sun's glow
On my porch swing, sippin' iced tea
As dimness spreads 'cross Mi'sippi
Plum fragrance of mimosa tree
Blends with cut grass upon the breeze
And summertime's in fullest bloom,
Even in sweet gatherin' gloom
The whippoorwills do give address
To seek a mate, and her impress
With rollickin' tune, rapid wail
A roll in the dust, flick of tail
Likewise does the wee croakin' frog
Sing to it's own from every log
Just hear his trembling vibrato
While fireflies seek another's glow
A sweeter pleasure I'll never know
Than to spy the last of sun's glow
On my porch swing, sippin' iced tea
As dimness spreads 'cross Mi'sippi
