Camouflage

Walk right by without a glance
You do not even see me
I blend in with the wall paper
I'm part of your surroundings
Like the draperies or furniture
There for your comfort

I speak with heart and mind open
Feeling so much, pouring it from my soul
But it's a whisper on a cold north wind
That doesn't even send you a shiver
How can I shed my camouflage
And make you see me

Even when I scream you don't hear
My truths to your ears are lies
My opinions just like buzzing flies
You swat away, not looking up
From the Sunday funny papers
I had to look into the mirror
To see if I was truly there

I was, and I was surprised to find
Myself not wearing camouflage,
Nor that unpleasant to look upon
Yes, I finally like my reflection
If I'm not wearing camouflage,
Your eyesight needs correction
