Firestar Rusty, a 'pudgy little kittypet' spent his first six months in as a house cat. Later on, he dares to place his paws in a forest, and chances catching a mouse he has seen in his dreams for three nights. He is caught by a gray cat, same age and size, and learns for the first time about the four Clans. The newcomer, named Graypaw, explains to a confused Rusty about Clan life, and how kittypets like himself could never live that way. Rusty is insulted, but then two other cats come: Lionheart, Graypaw's mentor, and Bluestar, Graypaw's leader. Bluestar then invites Rusty to join ThunderClan, as an apprentice to train with Graypaw to be a warrior. Rusty is unsure, and Bluestar offers for him to make his decision by noon of the next day. After thinking, Rusty meets Lionheart at noon 'sunhigh' and meets Whitestorm, a senior warrior of ThunderClan. The two set off for the ThunderClan camp, and then Bluestar calls a meeting to announce Rusty's arrival. Rusty is renamed Firepaw after a fight with a Clan warrior, Longtail, and is ready to begin his training. Firepaw learns the treachery of Tigerclaw, another great warrior of ThunderClan, by his apprentice Ravenpaw. Redtail has been killed by Tigerclaw, so he could become deputy instead. But Bluestar names Lionheart deputy because he is older than Tigerclaw, and shows great deputy skills. An attack by ShadowClan causes Lionheart to die, and Tigerclaw is named deputy at last. Firepaw suspects that Tigerclaw will do anything for power ... even kill Bluestar. Ravenpaw is in danger, because Firepaw believes that Tigerclaw thinks Ravenpaw knows the truth about him. Firepaw and Graypaw lead their terrified friend to Barley, a loner living in a barn near Highstones. Frostfur's kits go missing, and Yellowfang, the former ShadowClan medicine cat, is accused of taking them, and killing Spottedleaf, ThunderClan's medicine cat. Firepaw and Graypaw go in search of Yellowfang, tracking her scent through rain as a storm brews. They find her by a burned ash, where they smell kit blood. Yellowfang seeks help from her allies in ShadowClan, while Firepaw goes to find the patrol that Bluestar sent out. He gathers them toward the burned ash, and Yellowfang returns with the elders of ShadowClan -- forced to live on the edge of the territory and let them care for themselves. Together, they concoct a plan to get into ShadowClan's camp and get their kits back. The plan succeeds, and Brokenstar flees his Clan, along with his inner guard: Clawface, his deputy Blackfoot, and a few other warriors. Nightpelt takes control of ShadowClan, and ShadowClan are left in peace for one moon. Firepaw and Graypaw are awarded their warrior names: Fireheart and Graystripe. In Fire and Ice, Fireheart and Graystripe's first warrior mission is to find WindClan and bring the missing Clan back home. They bring the shattered Clan back to the uplands where they had lived before, and on the way back through RiverClan territory, Fireheart, Graystripe, the WindClan warrior Onewhisker, and the WindClan deputy Deadfoot are caught by a RiverClan patrol. Fireheart saves Sandpaw from falling off the edge of the gorge, but another RiverClan warrior falls off the edge, Whiteclaw. Graystripe manages to save his own life, but Leopardfur, the RiverClan deputy, begins a grudge with Graystripe and ThunderClan that could be dangerous. In Forest of Secrets, Fireheart covers his friend as he falls in love with the RiverClan warrior Silverstream, but she dies as she was giving birth to Featherkit and Stormkit, hers and Graystripe's kits. Tigerclaw sees the whole thing, but Fireheart and Graystripe don't seem to care. Fireheart later carries the news to Mistyfoot, Silverstream's friend. Mistyfoot is thankful for him telling her, and Fireheart helps take Featherkit and Stormkit back to the camp. Goldenflower offers to suckle them, and Graystripe begins to spend all his time watching his kits. Fireheart then learns that Bluestar was the mother of Mistyfoot and Stonefur, two RiverClan warriors. Both were taken to RiverClan, along with their brother Mosskit, who had died from the cold. Neither Mistyfoot nor Stonefur had an idea that their mother came from ThunderClan. A few moons later, Fireheart at last manages to force Tigerclaw's secret into the open, when the deputy sends out nearly all the warriors into the forest, leaving very few in camp. Tigerclaw attempts to kill Bluestar, but Fireheart stops him, and the deputy is banished from the Clan forever, and in shock, Bluestar waits longer than moonhigh to announce the new deputy. Fireheart is announced deputy, and he struggles with his new duties. Tigerclaw lurks and haunts Fireheart's dreams, and then a new arrival comes to ThunderClan -- Cloudkit, Fireheart's nephew and Princess's son. Fireheart takes Cloudpaw on, but Graystripe leaves ThunderClan to go with his kits to RiverClan at the end of Forest of Secrets, leaving Fireheart alone. In Rising Storm, a terrible drought strikes ThunderClan. Fireheart knows Tigerclaw won't rest, and eventually Tigerclaw and some rogues at the Thunderpath kill the tabby warrior Runningwind in an ambush. Fireheart does his best to cope with Cloudpaw's secret, and the apprentice is taken away by a monster to a nest near Barley's and Ravenpaw's barn. Fireheart takes Sandstorm to go and rescue him, along with Ravenpaw, who brings the news of Cloudpaw's ware bouts to him. They rescue him, and Cloudpaw is accepted back into ThunderClan. A fire sweeps through ThunderClan territory, and Patchpelt, Halftail, and Yellowfang are killed. Fireheart covers Bluestar's weakness from RiverClan, and Fireheart and Graystripe come to the ThunderClan camp to find that Halftail was dead, and Fireheart learns that Yellowfang was Brokentail's mother, and that she killed her son to end the suffering of her adopted Clan. At a Gathering, Fireheart takes the place of Bluestar, but before he can speak, ShadowClan is revealed to have a new leader, since Nightstar and Cinderfur died of a sickness from the rats at Carrionplace. The new leader is Tigerclaw, now Tigerstar. In A Dangerous Path, Fireheart is shocked to hear that Bluestar is losing faith in her warriors, and StarClan as well. The words 'pack' and 'kill' are appearing in nightmares and visions, and Fireheart seems to pick up traces of a dog wherever he goes in ThunderClan territory. The mystery is not solved, even when two apprentices, Swiftpaw and Brightpaw, go to Snakerocks to see what is happening to the forest. Swiftpaw is killed, and Brightpaw is injured, leaving Fireheart suspicious. Bluestar believes that the lack of prey is WindClan, but Fireheart arranges for Tallstar to meet Bluestar at Fourtrees to talk about the prey and how the damage went to both Clans, and Bluestar calls off the attack. And at last, the warrior Longtail finds his true loyalty to ThunderClan, and tells Fireheart about seeing Tigerstar at Snakerocks, leaving a rabbit on a rock for a dog in a cave. Fireheart believes Longtail wants to trick him into death, but a talk with Cinderpelt makes him change his mind and he goes to find the warrior. Longtail tells Whitestorm about the dog, and Fireheart listens to what Longtail has to say. Fireheart leads a patrol to Snakerocks, and discovers a trail of dead rabbits, leading all the way back to camp. He realizes that Tigerstar was connected to the dogs, and had laid a trail back to the ThunderClan camp so that the dogs would kill them. At last, Fireheart tries to break the trail, but as he comes back to the ravine, he finds the body of Brindleface, who had went out early hunting but had been slain by Tigerstar to give the dog pack a taste for cat blood. Fireheart calls a Clan meeting to tell ThunderClan about the dogs, and the rest of the Clan are organized to go to Sunningrocks and climb tall trees while the fastest runners are going to go with Fireheart's plan. It is to lead the dogs over to the gorge, and trick them over the edge so that they would all be killed. Mousefur, Ashpaw, Fernpaw, Sandstorm, Graystripe, and Fireheart are placed along in line, Fireheart is the last one to go. As he reaches the gorge, Tigerstar leaps and pins him down to the ground, leaving the dog leader to grab him. At the last moment, Bluestar comes and flings the dog and herself over the gorge. Fireheart leaps in after Bluestar, but only manages to get her downstream before Mistyfoot and Stonefur help bring her to shore. Bluestar dies on the bank, and she is forgiven by Mistyfoot and Stonefur -- her children. Tigerstar hears everything, but races back to his own territory as Bluestar dies. Fireheart is now leader, and he begins the journey through the forest to take Bluestar's body back to camp. In the Darkest Hour, Fireheart allows Mistyfoot and Stonefur to pay their respects to Bluestar the last time. They are caught in Bluestar's den, and Fireheart is forced to tell them the truth about their heritage. Then, Cinderpelt and Fireheart travel together to Highstones, so Fireheart can receive his nine lives and name from StarClan. A hill of bones and a river of blood interrupt FireheartοΏ½s ceremony. Then, Bluestar, the former leader of ThunderClan, gives him the prophecy: Four will become two. Lion and tiger will meet in battle, And blood will rule the forest. When he returns, Firestar names the new deputy Whitestorm, and then his suspicions about Darkstripe, Tigerstar's biggest ally, deepen. He orders Brackenfur, the newest warrior and Graystripe's former apprentice, to keep an eye on the dark tabby. After coming to the ravine after hunting with his apprentice, Bramblepaw, Firestar sees Sorrelkit, one of Willowpelt's litter, next to some deathberries that were half chewed. Graystripe attacks Darkstripe, who he accuses of poisoning the kit with deathberries. Firestar learns, after Sorrelkit recovers, that Darkstripe poisoned her so that she couldn't tell the Clan that he was meeting Blackfoot, the ShadowClan deputy, on their territory. Darkstripe is exiled from ThunderClan, and with no surprise, he goes to join ShadowClan with Tigerstar. At the Gathering, Firestar learns of TigerClan, Tigerstar's idea of joining all Clans together as one. Leopardstar had already agreed to join the new Clan, but Firestar and Tallstar, the WindClan leader, refuse. Firestar sees his chance to reveal Tigerstar's colorful history into the open. But as he begins, a storm rolls in at Fourtrees and clouds cover the moon, forcing the Gathering to end. TigerClan attacks WindClan soon after the Gathering, even though Firestar sends reinforcements, they are too late, but they see what Tigerstar has done. The apprentice Gorsepaw was killed, but Firestar wonders if Tigerstar knew about the special bond between the two of them. Firestar agrees a few days later to Graystripe's plan of checking on his kits. Ravenpaw accompanies him, and the three go over into RiverClan territory and find out Mistyfoot and Stonefur are prisoners as well as Featherpaw and Stormpaw. They are prisoners for being half-Clan cats and traitors to their Clans. Stonefur is killed by Darkstripe and Blackfoot, but Featherpaw, Stormpaw, and Mistyfoot survive and are taken back to their prison. Firestar and his two friends follow Jaggedtooth's scent towards it, and helps them escape back to ThunderClan. After the time runs out for Tigerstar's offer, Firestar prepares to fight, and takes a patrol to Fourtrees. Firestar is at last able to reveal Tigerstar's past to all the Clans, even BloodClan, Tigerstar's allies from Twolegplace. Scourge, the leader of BloodClan, then decides no battle will be fought, and kills Tigerstar with one blow. Then Firestar is faced with this threat : leave the forest in three days, or fight BloodClan for it. Firestar leads all four Clans as LionClan, to face off BloodClan after Leopardstar agrees to add TigerClan to WindClan and ThunderClan. In the battle, the BloodClan deputy Bone kills Whitestorm, the ThunderClan deputy. (Who is later killed by the apprentices) Whitestorm's last wish is for Firestar to appoint Graystripe deputy, as he was 'the cat destined to be deputy'. Firestar names Graystripe deputy, to Whitestorm's wish, and then loses his first life to Scourge. And, to Scourge's shock, Firestar lives, and rises to kill the BloodClan leader. BloodClan fall apart, and LionClan returns to ThunderClan, RiverClan, ShadowClan, and WindClan again.Firestar's Quest After many moons of peace, Firestar is once again featured as the main character in Firestar's Quest. It begins with Firestar having these strange dreams, and one particular warrior, one with a gray and white pelt and sky blue eyes... is the one that appears to him even in daylight. In search of answers, Firestar confronts Bluestar at the Moonstone to find out that the cat was Cloudstar, the leader of SkyClan. Angered that StarClan has lied to him, he later goes to Smudge's house to see why Smudge was having the same dream as he, the dream of SkyClan cats fleeing in the moor. He learns that Smudge's house was built over SkyClan's old camp, as said by Cloudstar when he visits Firestar in his dream. He explains that Twolegs destroyed their territory and forced the Clan to flee, and then he gives Firestar a task; to go and search for the remains of the scattered Clan and rebuild it before it was lost forever. Upon telling Graystripe, Sandstorm, and Cinderpelt of his decision to attempt the task, they are all shocked, because he was leader, it would be hard to leave his Clan. In the end, he and Sandstorm leave Graystripe and Cinderpelt in charge of the Clan while they set off. On the journey, his love for Spottedleaf confronts FirestarοΏ½s relationship with Sandstorm, but Firestar eventually convinces Sandstorm that he loves her too, because he could never be with Spottedleaf. Then, they come across a gorge, where SkyClan had settled before they had been wiped out. While sleeping in what was the warriors' cave, Firestar has a dream about the camp, in which SkyClan's deputy, Buzzardtail was telling the warriors where to go. His words 'you know where to go' echoed in Firestar's head as he woke up. Then, they meet two kittypets, called Cherry and Boris, who mistake Firestar for a crazy old rogue they called Moony (Skywatcher), because he always looked at the moon. They called him mad because he talked of cats 'with stars in their fur'. Firestar lets the two depart after telling him this, and he decides to wait for Moony's arrival, hoping he might have been a SkyClan warrior. Moony then eventually tells Firestar that his name was Sky, not Moony. He tells Firestar a bit about SkyClan, but runs off. Throughout the book, Firestar meets several cats: rogues and kittypets alike. Some of them, like Cherry and Boris, have SkyClan traits (tough pads, the ability to jump, etc). Noticing these traits in the two, Firestar attempts to train them like apprentices, in hope they might become SkyClan warriors. More information from Sky reveals that SkyClan had been wiped out a long time ago, and that Firestar needed to gather the cats around him to form a new Clan to replace the one that had gone. Firestar begins with Cherry and Boris, teaching them all he can about Clan life, and they eventually come up with the idea of a meeting in the gorge to talk about SkyClan, and perhaps persuade some cats to join. The meeting attracts a group of cats, most of which join in the meeting. A few listen, but refuse, either enjoying their lives or just coming along to listen. Firestar gives all the new members of the Clan warrior and apprentice names, and the rebuilding begins. Leafdapple trains Sparrowpaw, and Sharpclaw trains Cherrypaw, with the assistance of Firestar and Sandstorm. The Clan comes along well, but Firestar worries about the Clan finding a medicine cat; a crucial member to any Clan. Firestar ponders who it could be, noting Leafdapple's kindness and wondering if it could be her. When asking this, he is told that Leafdapple's destiny lies else ware, and that he must go to Twolegplace to find the kittypet who has dreamed of SkyClan's ancestors. This leads him to Echo, a she-cat who has dreamed of cats with stars in their fur. Echo becomes Echosong, the new medicine cat of SkyClan. Rainfur, a rogue who came to the meeting but refused to join, pleads for Firestar to help get his mate and bring her to the Clan to shelter from her Twoleg, who had been abusing her and her kits. Firestar sends a patrol to rescue the she-cat and her kits, and brings them to SkyClan. They all are accepted into the Clan later on. After a while, Firestar then realizes that rats were the attackers of SkyClan and why they were wiped out. After a brutal attack on SkyClan on a night of no moon, Firestar realizes that they will have to kill the rat leader so SkyClan can be free, forever. He leads a patrol of cats to go to the wrecked barn, and attempt to kill the rats. Firestar dies once in this battle, but is then reached by a voice that tells him the rats are one, and that the leader controlled them all. He would have to find the ripples that led to the center of a lake, and found the rat leader. He killed the rat, and at last he frees SkyClan. He accompanies Leafdapple to her leader ceremony, and later, watches Sharpclaw become deputy and the Clan become whole. In the epilogue, Firestar and Sandstorm are caring for their newly born daughters, Leafkit (Leafpool) and Squirrelkit (Squirrelflight)The New Prophecy Firestar's two daughters have become apprentices, Leafpaw becoming the next medicine cat and Squirrelpaw learning the ways of a warrior from Dustpelt. While Leafpaw is with her mentor, Cinderpelt receives a sign involving Fire and Tiger together. Firestar wonders what this has to do with him since Tigerstar has died a long time ago. Leafpaw suggests that this warning might focus on Squirrelpaw and Brambleclaw, as they are Firestar's daughter and Tigerstar's son. Seeing this as a potential threat to his Clan and his daughter, Firestar does his best to keep them apart, upsetting his daughter and the young warrior. He fails when Brambleclaw tells Squirrelpaw about his dream, and later, she sets of with him to the journey to the sun-drown-place he had seen in his second dream. Firestar begins to worry about his daughter, fearful she will never return. He was leading his Clan and trying to help them through the slow destruction of the forest. When he tries to save Onewhisker and a ShadowClan kit's life, a tree falls down and crushes him as the other three Clans try to help ShadowClan escape from their destroyed camp as the Twoleg machines came closer. He looses a life in the process. When Tallstar looses his last life, he names Onewhisker his deputy, in fear that Mudclaw would destroy the friendship and peace between ThunderClan and WindClan. He doesn't use the right words, and dies. Firestar is a witness to it, and helps Onewhisker announce the news to the Clans. Firestar also settles his Clan into their new camp, a stone hollow in the middle of the forest they were used to. Firestar helped the Clan explore their new territory, and when two tough kittypets were attacking ShadowClan, he sends a patrol to try and help. He fought the badgers that invaded ThunderClan's camp, and helped to drive them away. Firestar has settled the Clan into their camp, and Stormfur and Brook have returned from the Tribe. They help repair the Clan after the badger attack, but leave for RiverClan. They are thrown out by Hawkfrost, and return to stay with ThunderClan. Since Graystripe had been captured in Dawn, Firestar has had the hope that he would return to them someday. Listening to Stormfur's advice, Firestar names Brambleclaw the new deputy, without an apprentice. Firestar promises Berrykit to Brambleclaw, and Firestar sits a silent vigil for Graystripe. Later, he is caught in a foxtrap, and Brambleclaw is almost persuaded by Hawkfrost to kill his trapped leader, who only had six lives left. Brambleclaw then kills Hawkfrost to release his leader, and Firestar praises Brambleclaw for his choice. He is exhausted, but still alive. In this book, Firestar was given a prophecy that was given to him a long time ago by Skywatcher, before he died. There will be three, kin of your kin, who hold the power of the stars in their paws. Firestar realizes that the powerful cats are Hollykit, Jaykit, and Lionkit, children of his daughter and Brambleclaw. Squirrelflight's kits are ready for mentors. Firestar assigns them each a mentor, Hollypaw to Leafpool (as she requested to Leafpool), Jaypaw to Brightheart, and Lionpaw to Ashfur. Later, he assigns Hollypaw to Brackenfur because she wanted to be a warrior instead, and Jaypaw to Leafpool because he needed to train as a medicine cat, even though he didn't want to. When Jaypaw dreams of dogs attacking WindClan, Firestar leads a patrol to help chase the dogs off their territory. Graystripe and Millie return to ThunderClan at a Gathering, and as Firestar leads his friend home, he begins to wonder about who should be deputy, Graystripe or Brambleclaw. Eventually he chooses Brambleclaw, believing that he knows the Clan best, but he still sided with Graystripe on whether or not to make a stand against ShadowClan because they were invading their territory. Firestar continues to lead the Clan, as usual. When RiverClan come to the following Gathering, they are all nervous, and Firestar is a bit suspicious. When they announce that they are going to live on the island, because their was something wrong with their home, Firestar soothes the other Clans that is RiverClan is not gone by the next Gathering, then they can worry. Leopardstar assures him that RiverClan were solving the problem and wouldn't have to stay long. Jaypaw and Leafpool try and convince Firestar to help RiverClan, but Firestar refuses, believing that it was RiverClan's problem. Hollypaw tries to convince him herself, but he refuses and she sets of to try and fix it herself. Firestar punishes her when she returns. |
