He was born to Princess, Fireheart's sister. At the age of one moon, Fireheart brought him into the Clan, because his sister asked him to.

Cloudpaw was apprenticed to his uncle, Fireheart.

Cloudpaw started to accept food from the Twolegs, going to their nests often and eating the kittypet food left out for him. Eventually, he was captured by the Twolegs and taken to the far side of WindClan territory, near Highstones. Sandstorm, Fireheart, and Ravenpaw go to rescue him. He helped the Clan escape from the fire, attempting to drag the dead Patchpelt over the river. Fireheart tells him and Dustpelt to leave him there.

After a battle, Cloudpaw was made into the warrior Cloudtail. He gave support to his friend Lostface, while she was being healed. He even took her to meet his mother. When Tigerstar killed his foster mother, Brindleface, Cloudtail wanted to seek revenge on ShadowClan.

He took part in the battle with BloodClan as a member of LionClan.

He was one of the cats to chase the badger that killed Willowpelt, away.

The New Prophecy
Cloudtail was a senior warrior at this time. He supported Firestar when Squirrelpaw disappeared along with Brambleclaw. He wanted to lead a patrol to attack a badger living at Snakerocks, believing it was the one that killed Willowpelt.

He was captured by the Twolegs, along with Brighthaert, Mistyfoot, Gorsetail, Leafpaw, and Sasha.

He was rescued from the Twolegs, but Graystripe got captured instead. He helped Firestar persuade RiverClan and ShadowClan to leave the forest and join WindClan and ThunderClan in finding a new home.

Cloudtail, among the warriors of ThunderClan, explored the new territory. And he guarded the camp when Mudclaw attacked WindClan and Onestar.

He spent a lot of time with Daisy, a cream colored she-cat from the horseplace. Brightheart became jealous by this act, though Cloudtail did not seem to notice this, nor the fact that Daisy loved him. He fought in the badger attack.

He helped rebuild the camp after the badger attack, and when he and Brambleclaw went to fetch Daisy back from the horseplace, he showed he still had a taste for kittypet food, even though he promised Firestar he would never go near a Twoleg nest again.

Power of Three
Cloudtail is chosen to mentor the apprentice Cinderpaw, who is actually Cinderpelt reborn.

His apprentice falls out of the Sky Oak and injures her hindleg.
