Miss Sharpe's Classroom Newsletter

Welcome to First Grade!
Welcome back to school, and a special welcome
to the world of first grade! I look forward to meeting your child!
I wish I could talk with you soon, too, as you have been your child's first
and most important teacher. I could learn a lot from you that would
help me make this first grade year a good experience for your child. The
beginning of school is so busy, though, it will be a while before I am able
to schedule parent conferences. But you can still help! Please
fill out the enclosed forms, and tell me anything you think I should know,
or anything you just want me to know about your child. Thank you in
advance for your efforts. Your input will
help us get off to a quicker, better start. We will be having a parent
meeting in a few weeks to answer your questions.
I would like to introduce
myself to you. My name is Lindsey Sharpe, this is my first year teaching.
I know family time is important and
I will
try to be sure the homework I send home will take no longer than 15 minutes
per
day to complete. Homework will be sent home on Monday and returned
on Mondays.
This will be an exciting year for your child as they learn to read and write. I
will be using a combination of direct teaching, singing, phonics, whole language,
and literacy centers to teach these skills. With the combination of
these your child will have many opportunities to be successful in the classroom.
I have set up this web site so you will be able to view classroom rules,
newsletters, our daily schedule, and other important information.
What is Different about first grade?
First grade is different
from Kindergarten. Each child already has a desk in our room with their
name on it. We have books to keep in their desk along with their supplies. Our
day
starts at 8:00 and ends at 3:00. Yes, we get recess and track breaks
during the day. We will be learning to become better readers and writers,
and to add and subtract numbers. We will be
discovering our world during the year and learning how to work together to
solve problems. We will work on computers and do art. But, most
of all, we will have fun learning all year.
Again, welcome. I look forward to hearing from and working with you this year!
Sincerely,
Miss Sharpe
