Putting American Idol 7 in perspective...
Giving much thought and comparison to previous AI seasons, Season 7 has more talented singers, making it harder to have favorites this time around. This is the first time that I have not voted for anyone, as my best for the week, would not be the same the following week.
I used to go for underdogs who I believe has potential to make it after Idol, such as Kellie Pickler which I voted a lot in her season, and I did vote for Katherine McPhee. My favorites in the past ended up second runner ups with the exception of Kelly Clarkson. Some didn't do too bad, but didn't do too good either after Idol. But I stucked by them through thick and thin and voted for them to at least make it to top 10, if not to be among the only two standing during their season.
This time, I have not voted for anyone
and that is something of a big deal for me. It made me able to just listen to their voices and their song choices--which is, by the way, a must this season, if the contestants want to stay until the last. Wrong choice of songs can be detrimental and fatal to anyone of them, with the exception of David Archuleta. He seems to have a big following, as if in BIG. He could forget the lyrics and sing a bad song, but he would still be one not to be voted off. He charms the ladies-- both young and old.
This is not true with the rest of them. Anyone can be part of the bottom three, which happened with Carly Smithson. I've noticed that voters are listening more and more about Simon's comments. If he said something negative about the performance of a certain singer, most likely they will be part of the least vote getters. At this point in time, being all nine of them-- Syesha, Kristy Lee and Ramiele are the regular least vote getters. But if the good ones, such as Jason Castro, Michael Johns, Carly Smithson and Brooke White would not do so well with their song choices, it's the one that picked the worst song, (which could sound good to the singer, but not to the voters and Simon); that would be part of the bottom three.
With David Cook, he is so far consistent and always had picked good songs, and they are not ballads since top 12. He has entertained the viewers which made them crave for more of his performances. But if he makes a mistake of picking a wrong song and does not fair well with the voters, he, too, could be part of the bottom three. However, he seems very smart so far with what song to sing each week. I am kind of leary of his country song choice next week whatever it will be. But he seems very creative, so he could all surprise and amaze us again.
Now David Archuleta, with or without him knowing it, could pick the wrong song choice of the week, even if he mangles, spoils or ruins a song, his devoted fans who are dialing for dollars will still vote for him, especially so, if he screws up with his performance. His voters though cannot sit comfortably and lay low thinking that he is safe. They have to keep on voting for him every week as there are at least FOUR better Idol singers than him. His armors though are his youth, charms and disposition. He is the contemporary of the likes of Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers and all those Disney channel's current favorites of our very young generation of today. David A. sort of reminded me of the first runner up Justin Guarini's time on Idol. This time around, David A. has no Kelly Clarkson to beat, but has a very talented competitor in David Cook. As long as David C. keep on raising the bar each week, he is the one that David A. has to watch out for and beat in performance and song choice.
It's really the SONG CHOICE this season that would make someone beat the best of them. And the best of them is anyone between David C., David A., Michael Johns, Carly Smithson and Brooke White.
Who would I like to win if I have a choice? I don't have one choice like in the past-- It's between David Cook, David Archuleta and Michael Johns. My favorite but not necessary my choice to win is Jason Castro. I like his voice, his personality and his attitude, but it's not enough to win the coveted title. I would not mind buying his CD in the future though. He has a very soothing voice.
