Storm was then taken under the wing of Achmed El-Gibar- a chief theif (Hey that rhymes ^_^) that teaches children how to survive in Cairo. Achmed taught her how to steal so she could live. She became El-Gibar's best pupil. Later on, when Ororo was about twelve years old, she felt an urge to move south. She walked barefoot accross the Sahara Desert. She has said many times that she wishes she knew she had her powers then, so she could fly.
Storm was worshipped as a goddess on Mount Kilamanjaro for many years. The reason she was thought of as a goddess, was because the tribes people thought that her mutant powers made her a goddess among the people. Later on, Charles Xavier came to Storm and explained to her that she was not a goddess, but a mutant. Storm could not believe it but came to grips with reality. Xavier asked her to join the X-Men and she did and went back to New York with him.
Storm 's first adventure with the X-Men was to help retrieve the old X-Men from the mutant Island known as Krakoa. She helped them, and then became a member of the team. Unlke the original X-Men, Storm had control over her mutant powers and needed little help from Professor Xavier.
She went through many experiences with the team, including changing bodies with the White Queen. Storm also has become close to many members of the X-Men, including the newcomer, Shadowcat (Kitty Pryde).
When Cyclops left the X-Men, Storm became the new leader . Angel was captured by the Morlocks, Storm had to fight their leader, Callisto. Although she was sick, (because of the morlock names Pestilence), she decided she will fight Callisto. Storm defeated Callisto (In doing so, she stabbed Callisto in her heart, going against her beliefs (taking a life) and became the new leader of the Morlocks. Storm offered the morlocks "Safe haven" in the mansion. However the morlocks declined the offer, so Storm let Callisto rule while she stayed "above."
When Storm went to Japan with Wolverine, she met one of his friends, Yukio. Storm liked Yukio's carefree ways and "transformed". She cut her hair in a mowhawk style and she changed her costume to an all leather "gangster-type" look.
Later, when Rogue was wanted by the government, Henry Gyrich forced Forge to make a neutralizer gun which would rid a mutant of their powers. When Gyrich was hunting down Rogue, Storm was with her. When Gyrich started to shoot Rogue, Forge jumped him and Gyrich accidentally hit Storm. After that, Storm was rid of her powers for what she believed-forever. She began to hate Forge, after learning he had taken her powers away.
Storm learned how to live with her negated powers after that. When Cyclops and Madylene had a baby, The X-Men were faced with the fact that they were without a leader. Cyclops did not want to leave the X-Men but Storm new his time had come. They fought for who would be the team leader.
Storm began to regain her powers little by little. She was then captured by the Nanny. The Nanny had regressed Storm's age to that of a teenage girl. Storm later escaped and ended up in New Orleans where she met Gambit.
During the X-Tinction Agenda, The genoshans captured Storm and turned her into a "mutate". Her body then went to her normal state, and she lost her hair. She then helped the other X-Men regain their powers (all of their powers were taken away) and also helped defeat Cameron Hodge.
After the Muir Island saga, The X-Men were broken up into two teams: blue and gold. Storm was given leadership over the Gold team and the members were: Jean Grey, Colossus, Iceman, Archangel, and Bishop.
Since then, Storm has been leading the Gold Team. She has had another encounter with the morlocks, in which Colossus' brother Mikhail and Callisto became the new leaders of the morlocks.
Storm soon received news that Achmed El-Gibar (her mentor from when she was a thief) was sick. She went back to Cairo to help Achmed El-Gibar, because he was dying. She met a boy who was supposed to succeed El-Gibar, however, he was taken under Candra's wing. Candra then confronted Storm. Candra wanted El-Gibar's secrets, and she fought Storm. Storm defeated Candra, howewer the young boy still went with Candra. Later, Storm was once again confronted by Candra. Candra wanted to fight her because Storm had her heart (The red jewel on Storm's 1st costume). Storm won (of course).
Storm had a conflict morlock named Marrow. She fought Marrow with two bone knives and defeated her, by pulling out her heart. This is very similar to her fight with Callisto.
Storm felt very bad that she killed Marrow, and decided to go to the Morlock tunnels to pay some sort of solace. She performed the ceremony of light, however she was then transported to a strange place. She soon realized that this is where Mikhail and Callisto went when they left earth. They were transported to another realm, where the world is a big hill, and the purpose is for the morlocks to climb it. Time passes much faster there, which is why when Storm went there, she saw the third or fourth generation of morlocks that were babies during the Mutant Massacre.
Cyclops and Phoenix have now left for Alaska, so once again, Storm is the main leader. Three new X-Men have joined the team, including Marrow. Storm resents that Marrow has joined, and has made plans to make her leave.
