This was the beginning of this island bed.  It contains a white border of annual white alyssum, annual white vinca. The pink and red flowers are the annual nicotiana.
This photo was taken in 1993 when there was only one island bed instead of two on either side of the driveway. Also, missing are the picket fence on the left and the small dwarf crab tree near the top of the drive.
In this photo taken in 1995, there are now more perennials.  The large clump in the center is the beginning of 'Autumn Joy' sedum.  The spikes on either side are purple liatris after they have finished blooming. The picket fence on the left has not yet been put in.
This photo was taken in 1996 of the added island bed on the other side of the driveway.  Shown are purple coneflowers, white liatris and purple liatris are the spikes and the white above the purple liatris is a group of shasta daisies.  You can also see a small amount of yellow in the center that are yellow coneflowers. Also the split rail fence in the background has not been replaced by a picket fence and the shrubs near the oak tree in the top right of the photo have not been put in yet.
