| Shannon's story as told by her father: A place in Antigonish county Nova Scotia has its own terrors. This place now called 'Spook Farm' is an old farm in Caledonia Mills. There was an old couple that used to live there many years ago. They would always take a wagon up to New Glasgow in Pictou county where they would visit a friend. One day when they went to visit the friend she told them her husband had been killed in an accident in the coal mine. She would not be able to care for and support her six children . Although the couple had a daughter, she was grown with chidren of her own and lived away from them. Because they were lonely by themselves in Caledonia Mills they decided they would take the youngest daughter ,Mary Ellen, to live with them. After a few years later they began to notice a strange black dog which would appear on their door step and play with Mary Ellen but disappeared if anyone else approached it. Then one night a fire started when they were all in bed and the man of the house went down to put it out. They thought it was just a flue fire but later that night there were more fires that burned with a bluish light and each time they thought they had extinguished them there would be another fire . Many were the nights that the family woke to the smell of fire until they were afraid to sleep in case they were burned in their beds. One night in December there were thirty-eight fires. The couple were most unnerved by these occurrances and moved to Antigonish Town leaving their home to stand empty.. Not long after the house burned down but its foundation still remains. |
