Sharks make comeback at Hora Hora
The Western sharks traveled to Hora Hora park last Saturday in Northland wide premier rugby, their Beaurepaires premier team go down 33 - 19 to the local team. The Morfett autos reserve team also went down 44 -10 in the curtain raiser.
After going into halftime, Hora hora having a comfortable lead up 28 - 5, Richard Anderson the sole Sharks points scorer, turning to face the sun and the up-hill slope of the notorious Te Mai road fields, things did not look good for the sharks, However perhaps something in the water at halftime spurred the team into action, and after withstanding another onslaught from Hora hora, the Sharks took charge of proceedings for the remaining 30 minutes, much to the frustration of the locals. The Sharks working two good try?s, the first after prop Craig Williamson bulldozed his way across the line, the second by Hayden Hutchinson after a series of Sharks raids, Hutchinson converting the latter try?s.
Up front, props Noa Lutui & Craig Williamson went well, as did locks Regan Walters & Max Tautau. Halfback Roco Barbieri made a number of try saving tackles and first five Brendan Nathan controlled proceedings well.
Premier Reserve
It?s been an upsetting season start for the Morfett Autos reserve side, now desperately trying to get their season back on track, after facing two bye?s and a cancellation. The boys too withstood an early onslaught to also come back later in the game, keeping reserve grade front runners Hora hora scoreless for most of the half. Front rowers Hayden Lang, Vaughn Donald and Kevin Morrisey toiled well up front, While Jamie Kay had a strong match at halfback.
