Played in hot conditions, the Beaurepaires Sharks premier team started well, putting centre Phil Langdon in for a good try, converted by Roger Rowse, who kicked a penalty soon after. Awanui battled back in what proved to be a very even half, for a couple of touch downs and a penalty to be 15-10 up at the break. However, it all turned to custard for the Sharks in the second half, with the local referee canning them heavily in penalties, allowing the home pack to get a good roll on, grab the advantage, for their side to post further points, and romp home 39-12 over an increasingly frustrated Sharks side. |

| Replacement halfback Jason Chapman stepped up well once he had gained his confidence, in a Sharks backline that looked to have an edge over the locals, but which just didn?t receive enough go forward ball in the second half. Craig Williamson led the Sharks pack by example, the pack being very competitive the first half, but the forwards tired the latter spell and just could not muster enough grunt to overcome the double hurdle of being turned back time and time again by penalties, and an Awanui pack with their tails up. |
