?Sharks pipped at Post?
The Dargaville Ford Western Sharks conceded a try 4 minutes from full time to have their Beaurepaires Premier side squeezed out 17-14 by Wellsford in a tight Northland
Wide rugby match played at I.T.M Stadium Whangarei last Friday night.
Until then, up 14-12, the Sharks, although having an increasingly make shift look about their pack, through unavailability and injuries on the night looked like they might just hang on for victory.
This pack with Craig Williamson, Regan Walters, Aaron Lambly and veteran prop Paul Horner all striving mightily, came through with honours, although they received something of a bath at lineouts, the lack of ball from this facet costing the side dearly. Number 8 Andrew Simpson is thriving in this grade of rugby and young replacement flanker Jason Donoghue deserves special mention for a gutsy effort. Halfback Haydn Andrewes and first five Roger Rowse both had strong games with Rowse showing his experience with some top notch tactical and defensive kicking, while wingers Jeremy Hutchinson and Dave Fili were penetrative runners out wide. Hutchinson scored for the Sharks and Rowse added 3 penalty goals.
The Morfett Autos Western Sharks reserve team couldn?t repeat their form of the last couple of weeks and were well beaten 43 ? 0 by a particularly strong Wellsford team.
