Draw Rob's Sharks
A Penalty kicked by Marist first five Josh Levi in the dying seconds of the game, enabled his side to salvage a draw, and rob the Dargaville Ford Western Sharks of a victory they really deserved in northland Wide Premier rugby.
The Match was played in excellent conditions at Dargaville R.D.1 Rugby Park last Saturday. The Beaurepaires Sharks who scored three scintillating tries to the Marist one, could only be only described as desperately unlucky, putting on a top draw effort against a Marist side containing seven Northland N.P.C imports. Indeed Levi, with five penalties and a conversion, was the saviour for his side, that was well matched in the pack, and outplayed in the backs by the Sharks in a game of good quality.
Props Matt Breed and Noa Lutui excelled for the home team, while hooker Richard Anderson was at his effervescent best. Locks Paul Horner and Solomone Palu, who is consistently playing great rugby, and flankers Blair Williamson and Dave Pulman in his best game of the season, all had big matches, while number eight Andrew Simpson again showed what a more then capable player he is.
The Halfback pairing of Haydn Andrews and Brendan Nathan were sharp throughout, and promoted second five Glen Jennyns came through a tough baptism well, showing he has the skills to do well in this grade of Rugby. Quicksilver centre Phil Langdon oozed class, winger Dave Fili strong as ever, his run to the posts making the try taken by Paul Horner, and Jeremy Hutchinson was again in top form, fully deserving his two sizzling trys. Fullback Roger Rowse, with over one hundred games for the sharks under his belt, kicked two conversions and a penalty, hit the line with pace, and it was a searing break by Rowse that put Hutchinson away for the try of the match.
Josh Levi, blues halfback John Senio and Flanker Luke Ottley were standouts for Marist.
The match was well refereed by Kyle Collins
The Morfett Autos reserve team produced another strong performance to put away Marist 28-16 for their fourth win on the trot, in a convincing curtain raiser victory.
The Carters U 18 side drew with Whangarei Boys high 15 all.
The sharks travel to Wellsford this Saturday
