| Hikurangi 32 - Sharks 25 | ||||||||||
| The Dargaville Ford Western Sharks seem to be having a season of close losses, the trend continuing when their Beaurepaires Premier team went down 32-25 in a very tightly contested Northland wide rugby match played at Hikarangi last Saturday. | ||||||||||
| The Sharks had clawed their way back late in the second half to be tied 25 all, only | ||||||||||
| to concede a converted try four minutes from time. They threw everything at the home team the last couple of minutes and just about conjured up an equaling try, but it wasn?t to be on the day. | ||||||||||
| The Sharks pack again all played well and although being shunted in the odd maul and scrum the first half, gained parity in all facets the second spell. Without lineout star Aaron Lambly for this match, Dave Pulman and Mark Russell took over duties admirably, and were able to cash in on some wayward Hikurangi throws as the game progressed. | ||||||||||
| Jeremy Hutchinson and Roger Rowse showed out in the Shark?s backline, with first five Hayden Hutchinson having some good moments too. For Hikurangi, flanker Aaron Wright and veteran prop Tim Knight stood out, and the home side must have been very grateful to have the playmaking Noel Edmonds once again. Dave Fili, Jeremy Hutchinson and Roger Rowse scored tries for the Sharks with Rowse slotting two conversions and two penalties. | ||||||||||

| The Morfett Autos Western Sharks reserve team ran out deserved 32-20 winners over a heavyweight Hikurangi side in the early match. Matthew Webster, Ben Webster and Jason Marychurch were perhaps the pick of a much improved pack, with Webster outstanding in the lineouts. Cam Smith, Matt McCully, Tony Stokes and Jason Chapman played well in the rearguard, with Centre Glen Jenyns having a blinder and fully deserved his hat trick of tries. | ||||||||||
