| Sharks give Waipu big fright | ||||||
| When Dargaville Ford Western sharks fullback Roger Rowse slotted a good penalty goal from the sideline to put his team 16-15 up 10 minutes from time, it looked like an upset was on the cards, however current competition leaders Waipu, who have brought in a strong squad this season, had the luxury of bringing on six fresh substitutes to take a slight edge over a tiring sharks side, post two late match tries albeit the last from a blatant forward pass and take out this Northland wide premier rugby match played at R.D.1 park Dargaville 27-16 | ||||||
| The Beaurepaires Sharks pack matched Waipu well with front Rowers Craig Williamson, Paul Horner and Matt Breed to the fore, lock Aaron Lambly stealing ball off Northland lock Brad Taylor in the lineout and his locking partner Solomone Palu having an outstanding match with a high work rate and powerful bursts. Loose forwards Blair Williamson, Dave Pulman and Andrew Simpson went great guns too, with replacement flanker Mark Russell showing plenty of talent in his second half stint. Phil Langdon, Dave Fili and Jeremy Hutchinson all featured good running in the shark?s backline with first five Hayden Hutchinson pulling off a startling intercept try just after halftime. Overall Waipu deserved their victory but the final margin more then flattered the visitors. | ||||||
| The Morfett autos Western sharks reserve team were also edged out 22-10 in an evenly contested match. After Waipu posted to early try?s, the home team bounced back with Try?s to Richard Anderson and Matt McCully and made competition leaders Waipu work hard for their victory the remainder of the match. | ||||||
