Sharks beat Kamo
The Dargaville ford Western sharks had their Beaurepaires Premier Side squeak home 18-17 over Kamo in a Northland wide rugby match played at Kamo last Saturday.
A 45 metre penalty goal kicked by Sharks first five Roger Rowse three minutes from fulltime clinched victory. Kamo had a chance to reclaim the lead in injury time, with a penalty attempt but the kick by their Welsh fullback Emar Lewis, went astray to the glee of a good crowd of sharks supporters.
The Sharks trailed 12-5 at halftime with only a Hayden Hutchinson try to show for what was an erratic first half effort by the team. Guilty of trying the one off runners crashing back in to the Kamo pack far too often, the sharks would have been better employed to concentrate on moving swifter ball out to their three quarters where Dave Fili and Jeremy Hutchinson who both look in fine touch. However, the sharks did better from the second spell, gained some momentum, posted a penalty goal and a converted try by flanker Blair Williamson making a welcome return from injury, then of course that late match winning kick. The Morfett Autos reserve team made it a double header for the Sharks with a well contrived 45-3 victory over Kamo in the early match. Matthew Webster & Jason Donoghue were in to the thick of things throughout, while winger John Pulman had a top outing on the wing managing three touchdowns.
