Sharks 20 Mid Western 15
The injection Western sharks star flanker Solomone Palu at halftime, paid instant dividends for the Sharks Beaurepaires premiers, when the Dargaville Ford Western Sharks hosted Mid Western at R.D.1 Rugby park last Saturday.
Palu, the Sharks 'Tongan Torpedo' scored two tries to take the home team, who had been trailing 15-6 at halftime, out to a 20-15 victory.
After very good efforts the previous matches, the Sharks pack were extremely lethargic for much of this game, only stirring out of their apathy the twentieth minute after halftime, then, led by Palu, they took control of proceedings and did just enough to get their noses in front. Their backline suffered from the same malaise, and seemed unable to get the ball through to their pacy wingers at all. However fullback Jamie Kay has his kicking boots on to slot two penalties, and two conversions, and replacement halfback Russell Drinnan added some much needed ginger, when he took the field. Carters players of the day were Brendan Nathan and Solomone Palu. Visiting Waikato referee Frank Turner controlled the match extra well.
The Morfett Autos reserve team took out the early match with a good 39 to 3  victory.
After a slow start and conceding an early penalty to trail briefly 3 – 0, the Sharks soon equaled the score with a Cameron Smith penalty. The Sharks  then proceeded to run in a string of trys to Thomas TePaa, Richard Anderson, Henry Herman, Hamish Chambers and Osaisai Tukumoeatu, with Smith adding another penalty and four conversions.
For the Sharks Richard Anderson, Hayden Lang, Jason Bradley and Hamish Chambers went great guns in the pack, backs Cam Smith, Henry Herman, Sai Hufanga and wingers Hamish Stokes and Nigel Going also had good outings. The Empire liquor Center players of the day were Thomas TePaa and Hamish Stokes, Jeremy Kannemyer from Auckland was the Referee
All the sharks supporters will be hoping the Sharks can put in a much better performance when they take on Waipu again at R.D.1 park on Saturday.
