| People who work at the school are tools, part I | ||||
| An American high school A place of learning, where innocent fresh minds are nurtured by teachers, and where students can engage in healthful after school activities, all under the guidance of professionals. Right? Whats that? Is that a waambulance? Actually, it's a "HELL NO" in response to the question posed in the above paragraph. Let's stop kidding ourselves. Nobody in high school is innocent, I know more tools working at various high schools than I know sub 6:30 mile runners, whom are too numerous to be counted. Why do I feel the need to write an article about these people? Heres why... Monday, November 17, 2003- A few track runners and myself decide to go for a short run. Including an abbreviated stretch, the whole process takes between 20-25 minutes. Returning to the locker room, a friend of mine realizes that his bag has been opened, gone through, and an item stolen. Moments later, I go through my bag, and realize that I have just been robbed of a $450 birthday gift, recieved less than a month ago. I never realized how sad Harborfields High School is, until I realized than one cannot leave a backpack unattended in the locker room for 25 minutes withough someone going through it and taking stuff as if it were their own. Of course, everybody reading this is saying "WHY THE HELL DIDNT YOU LOCK IT UP?!?", and I usually do, but on this fateful day, I didn't. It's also pretty sad that I, the victem, is being blamed for getting his stuff taken, when it was in fact someone else who should be blamed for a complete absence of morals. Naturally, I go outside the locker room to ask if any of the para professionals outside have seen anything. Turns out they didnt see anything unusual, but they probably weren't looking. That pisses me off. Why? Here's why: Before going running, my friends and I were stretching. In the area between the boys and girls locker rooms. One of the para professionals bursts in half way through to tell us how we cannot be in there unsupervised, and forces us out. Let me get this straight... 4 members of the TRACK TEAM cannot stretch unsupervised in the gym, but random people can walk freely into the gym, locker room, wherever, and steal other peoples stuff... and thats not a problem? I can't even get an idea of who went into or out of the locker room in a 25 minute time period? Thats lame, really. I can't walk into the locker room after school at all now and be reminded that I can't stretch in the locker room, but if you want to go steal other people's stuff that's ok? Also, I'd like to commend who ever thought up the "ice maze" Sure the ice box was crowded, but it got us to class faster than this new goddamn adventure does. And it wasn't 20 degrees in it. If the ice box needed to be made bigger, why start in August, and have the completion date in January. If I'm not mistaken, January, December, November, and even October are some pretty damn cold months. Why not start in May and finish around the begining of the school year? Or, here's an idea, why not start construction at the end of June, make rebuilding the ice box a priority, and have it done by the begining of September? What an idea... someone high up in the school district should have thought of that. Return home |
