Master and Commander
The Far Side of the World
What I want to know is what exactly is Russell Crowe the Master and Commander of?  After this sorry excuse for a movie, his ass should be shipped to the far side of the world. The only reason I even thought of seeing this movie was because of Russell Crowe, who made Gladiator a good movie.  The previews for Master and Commander sucked, but Crowe has a history of decent films; Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind and The Insider.  Don't add Master and Commander to that list.  First of all, the lack of a plot is appalling.  He sails for a few months looking for a ship thats wants to attack him off the coast of Brazil.  The ship is run by kids, who either end up dead or with an arm missing, and are drunk all the time.  The doctor gets shot by some idiot who's hunting a bird, then he operates on himself.  That's all I got out of the movie.  You're probably thinking that the movie had to have been decent though, because the awesome fight scenes would make up for its shortcomings in every other aspect.  Well the "awesome" fight scenes don't exist.  RusselL Crowe's career just got a lot worse in my mind, and he didn't even direct the goddamn thing.  This (dis)honor belongs to Peter Weir.  Since 1993, he has directed TWO films, and none since 1998, which was The Truman Show.  The Truman Show was sadly, probably one of his better films, that and Dead Poets Society.  Master and Commander marks Weirs return from a brief hiatus, to which he should return to... for the rest of his life.  In fact, he would do well to take a hiatus from life, and just quit while hes still got the chance to spare our minds from another horrendous film.

Return home
It just hit him that the movie totally blows...
