M.Sayeed

Birth: He was born in 1942 on the dawn of the new year bringing joy and happiness to his rejoicing family. Little did any one know that this small child was going to be a person so great that everyone would look apon him with admiration. Thus he started his life's journey with a small cry.

Childhood: It was a sad childhood for him as the early departure of his father had brought sudden miseries on his family, there were a other kids in the family who were young and had to be looked after too. But his mother boldly took up the challenge and managed to send her children to school. And off he went to school struggling along with his studies. then one day he picked up a stick and got hold of a ball, and he hit the ball with his stick...... this was the moment, a new birth for him because from here he embarked upon a career on which none in his family had ever treaded upon.... He started playing hockey with a crude stick made of broken branches. It was mere obsession... he would play in the morning, in the hot afternoon in the dark nights, he would see the game in his books.

Sports: His actual career in sports started when he joined Christian College, Indore. In the first year itself he represented the university and went for the inter varsity. It was during one of his matches that he was picked up by the Coach of Aligarh Muslim University who offered him scholarship for studying in their University, if he agreed to play for them. Thus he joined Aligarh and was in the university team right from the word go. In the first year itself he was selected in the junior hockey team, and then onwards there was no looking back. He played in the Indian hockey team, Went for the Pre-Olympic camp, but sadly could'nt get through. But he was not dejected for he had played to his hearts content He played for the Indian University team, Bengal team, in the Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, Mohammadan Sporting, And finally got into the Indian Railways Team, and at the same time joined the South Eastern Railways as an apprentice.

Education: Though most of the time he was busy with his game he managed to squeeze out time for his studies and passed his B.A. with flying colors from Aligarh Muslim University. He had special interest in english which he says was what built his career.

Marriage: Though not very keen to marry, he finally gave in to the requests of his mother and elder brother. The girl was from Bhadohi,U.P. Someone whom he had never seen before. It was a quite and small affair within the family. And on 21st of Nov 1972 he became the husband of a shy little girl called Kishwar. Then started the most glorious part of their life, as husband and wife. She was there by his side helping him through in all walks of life. Everything was going great when she suddenly fell a victim to Cancer and departed on 10th of feb, 1998 leaving him all by himself.

Children: His first child Sharique, was born on the 11th august 1973, and the second, Shahana, was born on 26th of june 1977. They have been the center of all his affection and love right from the time they were born. He did everything to keep them happy all his life, he took them on rides on his shoulders, stayed awake the whole night when they were ill, helped them in their studies though he himself used to be dead tired after his work.

Work: He had joined the railways as an Apprentice but gradually worked his way up, through inspector, chief inspector, Assistant Commercial Manager, Divisional Commercial manager, and now  Deputy Chief Commercial Manager(Claims) in the railways. A man feared by his staff.
