Loyalties Lost

I lost myself in a sea of dreams
Mingled with the lost and quiet things
There never to think of my escape
For there’s the only place they appreciate
The quiet one who calls
His seeming silent call of cold

And there mislaid I looked unto you
In the bliss in ignorance of where or who
From the shining stars to the darkest lump of coal
Looked for something to fill the abyssal hole

The loyalties I cast, thrown aside
Like an old discarded lullaby
A sonnet lost its magic and its reason
A tree thrown its leaves to the blighted season

Here in the deep, cast adrift
I recall a distant memory not as this
The feel of solid ground beneath my feet forgotten
All the ships timbers now lie sodden and rotten
As the icy waters of desolateness
Caress my pale white solitary carcass

A misspoken spell
Waters swirl and swell
Douse all trace of the greeting fire
Put out all signs of unknown desire
Let the waters feed

Deep inside a dead heart rests
A mistake; failing every test
Forgotten before it could be said and done
An instant long gone…
Let the heart bleed
