THE RCIA

"The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a restoration of the ancient practice of initiation into the Church; a process of discerning and ritualising the stages of conversion, leading to the sacramental initiaon through the sacraments of baptism, confirmation and eucharist celebrated at the Easter Vigil, thus empowering men and women for lives of service, charity and justice as witnesses to the reign of God. It is the Parish community though its witness, worship, service and catehchesis that offer the invitation and support necessary for men and women to be initiated into the Church". T H Morris, The RCIA: Transforming the Church; Paulist Press 1989.

On Sunday 12th November, during the 10am Mass, RCIA will begin in this parish. Ten people have expressed an interest in becoming Catholics. Some of them are already baptised. They will attend the liturgy until the end of the homily, then leave for their own session of catechesis. Some sponsors from the parish will accompany them. Over the months, they may be present at different Masses but mostly at the 10am or 1115am masses.

Later, when the group has had a chance to settle, those who are confident that they want to be baptised or received into full communion with the Catholic Church at the next Easter Vigil will be admitted as Catechumens and Candidates at a Sunday Mass. Please support them with your prayers and hospitality.

Final Appeal for the Restoration of the Stations Fund.

We are about 3/4 of the way to our target of matching funds with the Heritage Lottery Fund towards the full Conservation and Restoration of the Stations of the Cross.

If 100 households pledge 1 per week for 1 year only, 5000 could be raised (Cost of 1 Station) - 300 households would raise 15,000 (Cost of 3 Stations).

All you have to do is collect 52 envelopes (if paying weekly) or 12 envelopes (if paying monthly) from Barbara Conboy, Parish Secretary, and place the envelopes in with your Sunday collection, or hand them into the Office at your convenience.

This suggestion made by a very enthusiastic parishioner, is a simple and painless way of making a last effort towards reaching our final target. Please give this due consideration as this may be your last chance to become involved in this ambitious Project.

Please sign below and hand in to Barbara, collecting your envelopes at the same time.

VIGILANCE
Over the past six months, the Church and the Jesuit Residence have been vulnerable to teenage male intruders. Their methods have included breaking doors, supposedly "looking for the toilet", using any open doors they can find to to anywhere and lie low until their chance appears to move about. The premises are especially vulnerable at the weekend. Would parishioners please be vigilant. Report any suspicions IMMEDIATELY to Father Randall, Barbara or the kitchen staff so that they can call for further help. This way we have a greater chance to safeguard people and property and get the police involved as quickly as possible.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS' HOSPITALITY SCHEME
In recent years, various Churches throughout Edinburgh have offered invaluable support withthe hospitality scheme for overseas students at the University of Edinburgh. If any parishioner is willing to offer hospotality at other times as well as over the Christmas perdiod be in touch with Mrs Helen Leitch, International Officer at 650 1000.
