A statement of purpose "Zeal is a dreadful termagant that teaches saints to tear and rant", these words of Samuel Butler inspires me to this day. I put my best foot forward in everything I do, sincere and dedicated to my work. Always eager to learn, my days at school have inculcated in me an immutable interest in science and mathematics. The depth and the unexplored areas of sciences had always intrigued me, and hence when it came to choosing a career, I naturally opted for engineering. "The heights by great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night." I believe in hard work. Armed with the requisite marks in the S.S.C examination after school (N.B.W.S High School), I got admission in the D.G.Ruparel college. With the unique blend of excellent coaching and helpful professors, my junior college further inflamed my interest in science. With equal emphasis on practical work as on theoretical work, I was exposed to the new realms of sciences that only further strengthened my decision to pursue a career in engineering. My fascination for Electronics and later computers grew leaps and bounds as I read the books from the college library and other IEEE journals. With excellent marks in the H.S.C examination, I secured admission in the Ramrao Adik Institute of Technology. I had been awarded the 'Best Outgoing Student' in my school, N.B.W.S High School and I have tried my best in maintaining this trend in my engineering studies too. During my subsequent years of engineering, I have concentrated on building a strong foundation in the various areas of Electronics, which has helped me mature as an engineer. In my sophomore year, I was exposed to the computer basics and then later programming languages like Pascal and C. Though I was an Electronics student, I realized my ability to program and let myself develop those additional programming skills, along with continuing of my specialization in the field of electronics, which has always held my interest. Since then I've covered numerous topics in microprocessors such as the Intel 8085, 8086, 80386 and their instruction sets along with peripheral devices, the ISA bus and the 8051 micro controller. With every new topic that I studied, my interest in this field grew exponentially. Also my electives for the final semester are Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and Microcomputer System Design (MSD). In DSP, I will learn about Z Transform, Discrete Fourier Transform, Fast Fourier Transform, Inverse Fourier Transform, Inverse Fourier Fast Transform. Also we cover programming in C, that includes writing programs for the generation of sine waves, cosine waves and the like. In MSD, I shall cover the Pentium Architecture and System Design using Pentium processor. Also, I shall learn about the PCI bus ( Peripheral Component Interconnect) and SCSI bus. Moreover a conceptual view of Microsoft Windows NT, Windows NT models-client server is part of the curriculum. I have been doing consistently well academically securing a 70% on an average in the four years of my engineering career. A first class with distinction in B.E, Electronics, I stand first in my class and am in the top 1% of my college. Merit list with rank 34 (out of about 1500) in the Mumbai University puts me in the top 2% of all the students in Mumbai University, Electronics stream. However, I am of the opinion that theoretical work alone can be of little use unless put to practice. "Ability serves little account without opportunity", as said by Napoleon, I would like to be a part of a research team that helps me prove my mettle. I did my final year project ," Real Time Multislave Interactive Interface ", at B.A.R.C (Babha Atomic Research Center) in the DRHR department ( Department of Remote Handling and Robotics) along with three of my friends. It deals with the interface of micro-controller, 80552 with the PC using parallel ports. The project involves writing VB code and assembly language programming for 80552. The micro-controller senses any input which may be the click of a mouse or the movement of joystick. It is then transferred to the PC which processes the input to control any mechanical device ( Robot) to accomplish the desired task. Parallel ports are used in the EPP mode, joystick in the serial port mode. VB6 provides a GUI based on event driven programming model. Robot works in the radioactive environment or other areas that are either too dangerous for human control or require sensitive handling. It has been a great experience and one I would love to undertake in the future also. My other interests include water colour painting, and sketching. I get an immense satisfaction by bringing the inanimate things to life. Painting has instilled in me more patience and calmness. It has taught me the lesson of life, "In a minute there is time for decisions and revisions which a minute will reverse". I have passed the Elementary and Intermediate drawing examinations. I have represented my college in many painting competitions and have several accolades in this regard. Music also interests me. I learnt Carnatic music (the regional south Indian music) for four years, which later on I discontinued. It was because the college schedule didn't permit that. "Time and tide wait for no man", this we all know. Hence, having done an inspiring four-year course in Electronic Engineering, I would like to put to use this knowledge to do my Masters in Science. This would give me the leading edge in technology and the practical low-down and information I require. Education should be a medium for the unfolding of ones inborn faculties, enabling him to use his mind, eyes, ears, and hands, as they should be used. This is the kind of education I would want, and one that I know your university will equip me with. Right now, I am working with Patni Computers as a Software Engineer, one of India's top most software companies with branches all over the globe. As of now, I am involved with development projects for GE, one of Patni's Client at Europe and Pacific. With an experience of few years and after having a good exposure to industry, I would like to pursue my Masters degree in a reputed U.S University. With a good grasp of fundamentals, intense preparation, and a good academic record, If given the opportunity, I shall persevere to achieve my academic best and make a significant contribution an institution I will be associated with.
