The first thing that occurs to you as the door swings open is that it ignores not just distance but time. The air is cool against your skin and the sky reaches from eternity to forever shot through with streaks of deep red, fiery orange and brilliant yellow.
A carpet of green spreads out before you to the crest of a hill, where a tree seems to reach protectively over a silhouetted form. The twilight is too soft and perfect to break the air with a yell, and so you approach the tree tentatively. As you get closer the sunset light reveals a strange half-equine half-wolf creature patterned in peach and blue. She - you know her gender with the same certainty that you know your own - swings her elegant head towards you, dips it gently in acknowledgement and then turns once more to watch the sun slowly sink below the horizon.

You stay there for a time, drinking in contentment with each breath of the cool air. Then, as the last streaks of colour fade from the sky, the shy creature beside you stands and touches her cheek to yours in farewell. You can't help but sigh as you stretch out your cramped muscles, then wander back down the hill to the waiting door.
