kuala lumpur and melaka

after a 4 hour 'night bus' which dropped us off at 4am, we found a nice place to stay near the bus station, got some rest, then explored kuala lumpur- malaysia's capital city.  again- after bangkok, KL (as everyone seems to call it) was a breeze.  there is loads of eastern-looking architecture which helped the exotic feeling quite a bit.  we saw all the touristy stuff (including the tallest flag pole in the world and going up the KL tower) but ventured off the beaten track for meals- eating the best satay EVER at a hawker stall away from the foriegner crowds.

morgan strikes a pose in front of the judicial building, where incidentally that day, a leading government opposition figure was being convicted on dodgy charges of sodomy.  we missed the big protests.  they happened about 2 hours after we took this picture.

smack in the center of the city is the jamsek mosque- the oldest in KL, and possibly the whole of malaysia.

me, in front of a fountain.  on the whole, KL was amazingly clean and green.

morgan supports the petronas twin towers, the tallest buildings in the world.

melaka...

a very historical city (it was a portuguese and dutch fort town for years) melaka was really laid back and pleasant.  again, if we'd had more time...

the chinatown night market.  special price for you pretty lady.  tonight only.  just for you!!!

a pretty tricked out bicycle rickshaw passes in front of the old dutch headquarters.

this fountain is the image on all the posters advertising tourism in melaka.  again- a relic from european rule.

morgan in front of more dutch ruins.  poor thing was so hot that day, he almost passed out.

left: the refurbished home of the old sultan, now a museum.
