| after a day in bangkok (where we got to catch up on some new movies in the plushest cinemas i've ever seen) we grabbed a train up north to the old thai capital of ayutthuya. much smaller and nicer than bangkok, we spent two days exploring the amazing ruins around the town. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| me next to a snoozing buddha. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| this wat, called chai watterham and done in the khmer style, was by far the highlight. just incredible to walk around. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| about 20 seconds after we took this picture, we noticed a sign that said not to do it, but too late... some history: the heads were lopped off all the buddhas in the wat by the burmese when they sacked ayutthuya. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| another khmer style wat. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| having dinner in the night market. phad thai, spring rolls and a coke for 2. cost? about $2 total. you get your coke in a plastic bag if you order take out, so the stall owner can keep the bottle it came in. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| me on one of the rented bikes we took around town. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
