Hi! I'm here to answer all your questions about those oddball books you can't find. Looking for a title, but not sure if it exists? Wanting to know who the real author is on a book you're pretty sure was written under a nom de plume? Where the heck is that Stephen King story your favorite movie is based on? Ask away!
Today's question:
MacPherson and Ossian- the One Who Got Away!
Yes, in a way- though no one knew it at the time. James MacPherson (the proper spelling, thank you) wasn't getting a lot of money or fame from his own work in the 18th century, so he invented someone way 'cooler'- Ossian, a poet supposedly from the third century. Basically, 'Ossian's' work was a bunch of lines from folk songs stitched together to form 'epics.' (Please pardon the excessive use of quote marks, I'm trying to cut down. One day at a time, Shay, one day at a time.)

Well, he was eventually found out, but luckily for him, not until after his death. Imagine, the man's invention swept nations, people raved about the poems of this fictional character he created, while his own poetry languished in humble obscurity.

See, kids? Forgery doesn't pay. Well, it does sometimes, but only monetarily. Emotionally, you get all messed up.
Did James Macpherson write under another name?
