Hi! I'm here to answer all your questions about those oddball books you can't find. Looking for a title, but not sure if it exists? Wanting to know who the real author is on a book you're pretty sure was written under a nom de plume? Where the heck is that Stephen King story your favorite movie is based on? Ask away!
Today's question:
Kilgore Trout
Kilgore Trout is a character in many of Kurt Vonnegut's novels, and writes truly trashy science fiction. The stories have splashy names like "Gilgongo!" and "The Era of Hopeful Monsters." However, Vonnegut has made up this colorful character as a spoof on himself, much like Isaac Asimov does in his 'Azazel' stories.

Many 'excerpts' are included from a variety of different fictional publications, mostly men's adult  magazines where it is filler in between pictures. (Vonnegut has been known to write for rather upscale magazine with underdressed  women in it himself.)

Oddly enough, Phillip Jose  Farmer wrote a book called "Venus on the Half-Shell" under the pseudonym (or pen name) of Kilgore Trout that is available through
Harvest. You can find more stuff out about this literary giant among imaginary people at The Vonnegut Corner.
Who is Kilgore Trout? He seems to be a crony of Kurt Vonnegut, but I can't find anything but one book in the library!
