Hi! I'm here to answer all your questions about those oddball books you can't find. Looking for a title, but not sure if it exists? Wanting to know who the real author is on a book you're pretty sure was written under a nom de plume? Where the heck is that Stephen King story your favorite movie is based on? Ask away!
Today's question:
Howard Hughes' Not-so-biography
Ah, the legendary Hughes Autobiography- Punting Down the Hudson with Long Fingernails and Tissue Boxes on My Feet. I'm kidding, of course. Take an asprin, have a seat, and I'll tell you all about it.

Okay, you ready? Clifford Irving, a rascal,  forged papers from Howard Hughes, got a bunch of people to buy his story (literally, evidentally, publishers don't ever have
literary forging experts handy) and got a lot of money for it. The book was only eventually published on the 'Net, as near as I can find out.

When he was found out pre-publication, by
James Phelan, who has  written some legitimate books on Howard Hughes, Irving then wrote a book about his hoax, called, appropriately enough, 'The Hoax.'

Is your head feeling better? Good.

Okay- what's up with the Howard Hughes autobiography? I thought it wasn't real, then someone published it anyway, and then a book was written about a book that wasn't published, but the biography is different from the autobiography... I have a headache.
