Here are my Chapter 6 and 7 assignments:

The flower theme I created for my PSP Graphics site was made using picture tubes that I downloaded from Mark Charneski's Fresh Flower Scans.  Go to my index page to see the whole theme.

_sailboat.jpg (1708 bytes) Click the thumbnail to see full view. This is the book exercise using layers.
_CherryTree.gif (8002 bytes) Click the thumbnail to see full view. I made this image using tubes and layers as well as pattern and gradient fill!
_moonface.jpg (2273 bytes) Click the thumbnail to see full view. This one is a combination a face layered over the moon.
_moon-tine.jpg (2768 bytes) Click the thumbnail to see full viewTwo simple layers - the moon and my cat (there we go torturing cats again!).

lionsroar4.jpg (18852 bytes)This was done following the book's example.

lionsroar1.jpg (17173 bytes)I did this variation adjusting the wood pattern's opaqueness rather than the lion head.

lionsroar2.jpg (21355 bytes)Playing with different wood patterns that I have in my graphics collection.  Also making the text a little more translucent.

lionsroar3.jpg (19276 bytes)I thought the clouds would represent the lion as a King. I also really blended the drop shadow behind the text for a charcoal smudge effect.

lionsroar5.jpg (17091 bytes) I particularly like this one because I used flood fill on the text with the lion head as a pattern. All of these examples could be improved by expanding the canvas size before applying the dropshadow to the lion's head.  That way it won't be an obvious rectangle.

This I thought was neat.  I used the magic wand to select just the face and pasted as new layer onto a black background. Then it was softened, made slightly more opaque and then embossed.
