Blood Is Hard To Get Out of Your Clothing, Isn’t It?
Kanako yawned as she was leaving school. She was rather tired due to the fact she slept in Shang Tsung’s study. She was rather stubborn about it, she did like Shang Tsung a lot and she knew that he admired her as well, but she didn’t want to be looked at as easy. Or presumptuous. Those were fates worse then getting older. Kanako was nobody’s fool or doll. The last thing she would ever be.
Kanako didn’t think she had any enemies really. She knew that the people in her school idolized her and she was the popular student. Though she never made any effort to hang out with anyone she kept herself distant but that made her all the more popular and students still dropped left and right just to talk to her. If she said one word to them it was regarded as a privilege that THE Kanako spoke to that person directly.
In Outworld, however, it was much different and hardly anybody knew her. There was the occasional person who would study her and peer at her, like they recognized her, but Kanako brushed it off as her imagination.
Maybe the fact she was tired caused her to lower her guard. Or maybe the fact the Tarkata were ambushing her. Whatever the case, when they attacked Kanako, she wasn’t at her best.
If it was any other day, and she was attacked by three people, Kanako would have fought them off and she would have won easily hands down. Today, however, she did defeat her opposers but it took her longer and she took a few blows. Kanako was really out of it as she stumbled into the palace and collapsed on the floor.
Kanako awoke to see Shang Tsung kneeling over her.
“What happened?” she muttered, not fully remembering her fight. She felt it was a dream, though she was feeling groggy and couldn’t figure out if it was real or just some fantasy.
“I came in to see you unconscious.” Shang Tsung told her.
“Ugh……this is so shameful……to be seen like this…I can’t believe I had problems destroying some weaklings.” Kanako closed her eyes.
“Even the strongest sometimes do not perform to their full potential.” Shang Tsung told her.
“I’m so tired……and I feel…uncomfortable….”
“I know what will make you feel better.” He told her.
“Mm….what?” Kanako muttered.
“Bathe in my hot springs.” He told her.
“Erm………I suppose so.” Kanako was feeling a bit amused but at the same time a little embarrassed. Another part of her was telling herself not to be an annoying little prude like some shojo character.
“Maybe it’s a justified feeling. I mean, I never really dated people before. I hate myself for having such dumb thoughts. If he were to accompany me in the springs, then that’s just life and I’ll deal with it. Besides, I do not wish to have any weakness in my life.” Kanako told herself.
Even though she was groggy and out of it, she wasn’t going to let herself act like a silly little girl.
“Kanako…are you alright???” Shang Tsung asked her.
“I…I’m sorry…I’m feeling out of it…” Kanako muttered as she felt herself falling asleep again.
“Come….” He helped her to her feet.
“Don’t…I can do this myself…” she brushed his hand away and stood, but she ended up falling back and he caught her.
“Ugh…” Kanako muttered. She hated this feeling. She hated to rely on people and she hated how if she was feeling fatigued due to not eating or lack of sleep her constitution dropped sharply and she was nothing.
“You need to take care of yourself, Kanako. A soul devourer needs adequate nutrition and rest or their performance drops and they are left in a state of nothingness.”
“I---never---knew that---I thought it was because I had problems…” She muttered.
“It’s not you, it’s any person who gives up part of their soul to steal the souls of other people. I, personally, find myself feeling this way if I do not sufficiently partake of sustenance. The hot springs in my palace aren’t there for decoration. They’re there for a purpose.”
Shang Tsung teleported himself to the dressing room of the hot springs.
“Here, I’ll leave you alone from here. You’ll find towels for your hair in here.” He pointed to a bamboo linen closet.
“And towels for your body here.” He pointed at the fixture next to the linen closet.
He left her be and Kanako found herself feeling quite amused with herself.
“I can’t believe for a second I thought he would accompany me. I must be cracking up. It’s not his nature to make a pass at someone in this fashion. I’m starting to act my age.” She laughed.
Kanako hardly felt like she was sixteen years old, she never acted like any other girl in her classes. When she came to live with the Yoshida’s, she was thirteen years old, but she hardly ever acted like it.
She was pretty quiet and reserved. Her skill at kombat was rather impressive and people thought that she possessed a great natural talent. “It was a shame she has amnesia.” People around her would say.
“So maybe Shang Tsung is right, and I lived before. This is why I feel apart from other people.” Kanako rested in the springs.
She was feeling more alert and she wasn’t feeling exhausted.
“Aww damn it!” She sat up suddenly.
“My school uniform has blood on it!” she laid back down.
“Blood is hard to get out of your clothing.” She muttered.
“Ah well maybe I’ll make Shang Tsung’s servants fix it. If they don’t do it right it might be fun to take their lives.” Humming a tune by Velvet Eden, another Jrock band she loved, Kanako got out of the hot springs and started getting dressed again.
