Mortal Kombat Another Story
So this is it. Kanako thought angrily as she was placed amongst the offerings. A cloth was tied around her mouth.
So long Kanako. Im glad to have found a use for you and the best part is that Im getting paid for it!!! Ryo told her.
Bitter rage ran throughout Kanakos body.
Theyll get whats coming to them. She thought angrily as she watched them leave. She noticed her Naginata amongst the offerings.
This sucks. She thought.
But her thoughts stopped when she noticed a man teleport in front of her. It was Shang Tsung.
So the fools think they can buy me? A handful of treasure isnt going to stop me from taking their village. He sneered. But a look of surprise replaced the evil sneer. He noticed Kanako.
A young lady? he walked over to her and bent down to inspect her.
Using his sorcery, he undid the chains on her and untied the gag on her mouth.
Kanako just stared at him.
Why...are you letting me go? She eyed him suspiciously.
Its not my style to treat a lady in such a fashion. He said abruptly as he teleported her and everything else to his palace.
.........
Your name? he demanded.
Kanako. She told him icily.
No need for hostility. He smirked and offered her his hand.
I can get up myself! Kanako snapped.
Feisty, I like that in a girl. Shang Tsung smiled at her.
Yuck. Kanako brushed herself off.
You dont like the idea of being here in my palace? He asked her.
Is he teasing me? Kanako thought annoyed.
Well.........Im not too thrilled about being a servant. I'm far too lovely for that, and far too intelligent. She locked gazes with him.
Hmm, this one seems interesting. Most tremble in fear of me, this one stands up boldly and doesnt cringe. Might keep her around for a while. Shang Tsung thought.
Well, what if I told you that you were not my servant? He asked her.
Smart move." Kanako picked up her naginata.
Im not interested in taking prisoners at the moment.
Well, Ill just leave then! I do have classes, you know. She gestured to her school uniform.
Hold up. I said nothing about leaving. Shang Tsung told her.
You are really starting to irritate me! Kanako gripped the naginata in annoyance.
Show me your stuff then. He demanded.
Wh-what?! Kanakos eyes widened.
I challenge you to Mortal Kombat. You intended to kill me anyway, did you not?
I, uh, fine. But I wont hold back! Kanako said haughtily. She didn't mean to sound cocky, but she was confident in her own abilities.
Shes really full of it. Shang Tsung thought.
Kanako rushed at him and the two of them exchanged kicks and punches, all countered and blocked.
Pretty good for a mortal. Shang Tsung sneered.
Ha! I was going to say the same thing about an old man like yourself. Kanako retorted, sneering.
Im immortal. The souls I steal provide me immortality and good looks.
Egotistical arent we? But I'm just as lovely myself. Kanako sneered as she did a back flip.
Had enough?
Im very skilled in combat, as you can see, and you left an open spot! Kanako did a sweep and knocked him onto the floor.
Shang Tsung smirked as he got back up.
Ill give you that. He muttered. But he didn't sound annoyed with her.
Yeah, I told ya I was good at this. Im one of the best in my school. Kanako flipped her hair behind her shoulders haughtily.
Whoever said beauty didn't come with brains and brawn? Being first in the class and having so many fans, its so tiresome. Sometimes I wonder why I was cursed with such talent."
You do have potential...very well; Ill keep you here with me.
Question! Kanako blurted out.
......err, yes?
Why are you being nice to me, I would think that you would want to kill me and steal my soul.
I sense power within you. I spare you only because you have potential.
Well, of course. Anyone with eyes can see THAT.
I, erm, also see you are quite confident in yourself. Shang Tsung muttered.
Its one thing to be full of yourself, but I KNOW Im the best. The only reason I was accepted in the Misaki Academy is because I pay for my own tuition. My idiot family wouldnt......but winning fighting tournaments pays for fees. Kanako adjusted her tie.
This girl is very strange. I cannot sense her at all. She does not appear to be strong, its like shes cloaking her power and I cant sense a soul in her. I do see her potential when she fights.
But when she talks......I feel I want to listen to her......Im compelled to listen, I cannot do anything but want to...what is this?
I should have evaded her kick sweep...shes very mysterious. For the first time in a while, Shang Tsung felt a little fear and alarm.
Listen, Mr. Shang Tsung, I promise I wont leave, I really have no place to go, and my school life IS quite important......
I will permit it, under two circumstances, one, if you dont pull any tricks. He told her.
Define tricks she retorted coolly.
Shang Tsung sighed.
Like your revenge on your family like you mentioned. Stuff that will kill you.
.....................Erm......you have my word. Kanako agreed softly.
Is he lonely? I really dont understand him. Ive seen him kill people, he devours the life force of innocent people, hes bloodthirsty, malicious, hes betrayed people, and seized villages in Outworld.........
But......WHY would he care about little ol me? I dont really get it......but, it seems like Ive been given a chance to live, so I might as well put it to some good use. Shang Tsungs voice interrupted her thoughts.
Are you paying attention????
Erm, Im sorry, um, I was thinking about my naginata class. She lied.
I said, and as for number two, you quit calling me 'Mr. Shang Tsung.' And you are free to go anywhere in my palace. I suppose you can use, the, well, I dont really have any other rooms for another being, I guess.
What? Are you for real? Kanako kind of regretted saying that because she felt she probably made him feel weird, but she didnt care.
Well, you see, when I had some of the Outworlders at my command, I didnt really think Id have anyone else here in my palace, besides myself. I do have a big dungeon where I hold people, but...
OMIGOD!!!!!!! Kanakos eyes got big.
Hes going to say...............hes going to.........OMIIIIIGODDDD!!!!!!!! I-I-I.........eeeeeeks!
Kanako was usually a very reserved person. But she could feel herself losing her cool. Her grey eyes widened and she smoothed back her long black hair.
Ok Kanako, calm down, don't act weak, you can handle it. So what if you have to share living quarters with Shang Tsung?" But Kanako was freaked out about such a concept.
Erm......I neeeeed to do shopping, um, can we play Getting to Know You over dinner or something???? I kind of need, um clothes and um, yeah you know. That bastard Ryo sold my pretty things. Oh how I want to kick his sorry ass!
Easy there. There is a time and place for revenge. Just go to Outworlds Outfitters you know you can get things custom made, and tell them I sent you. Take this. He handed her a snake ring.
Ooh, its really neat, but what will it DO? She thought as she left.
Lets see......he pointed out the store, this is really weird, and I hope the outfits are NOT lame. Hopefully they are like in Earthrealm...... Kanako liked to dress real dramatically. She loved gothic lolita attire, anything powerful and things that drew attention. She acted like she was a sweet girl.
But she liked to keep everything bottled up in her and her only friend was her naginata. She was the head of the Public Safety Committee at her school. She really didnt care about the welfare of other students, she could care less if someone was being taken advantage of, for Kanako loved only herself and her naginata, but it was because she loved her naginata and causing pain to others that she was even part of the Public Safety Committee.
It gave her a reason to fight and she loved triumphing over others. She was really cunning, compulsive, untrustworthy and nasty. She would do terrible things to other people, she enjoyed seeing them suffer and most of the time she would have her 'flunkies' do her dirty work.
There was always some sap that wanted to make Kanako happy and be her friend. But she didn't trust people and she hated others. So she gave others the illusion of friendship. After all, they might be some use to her in the future.
In a way, Im just like Shang Tsung. Im malicious and bloodthirsty and...I......Im an essence thief myself... Kanako buried her hands in her face.
"And I like him. I think he's adorable and cute. What he doesn't know is that Ive been watching him all this time. If I play this right, I might win him all to myself. Only he deserves someone like me." She laughed.
When Kanako was a child, she learned a technique, a black magic, if you will, and a way to drain the essence of the living that would make her stronger. It would maintain her beauty and make her young and desirable. Kanako couldnt remember exactly how it happened, though. Part of the process meant giving part of her soul and sacrificing her memories to the spell.
Kanako had neared the Outworld Outfitters shop and, much to her amazement, there were plenty of elegant gothic lolita-type clothes as well as some really provocative ones.
My adoptive mother never let me have anything provocative, and she never approved of my Lolita style. She said they were evil......but she cared not as long as I bought them with the tournament funds I won. Kanako frowned at the thought, but brightened up knowing that she would get whatever she wanted as long as she stayed in Shang Tsungs graces.
Um, will that be all, miss? the shopkeeper asked her.
Yes, it will be all. Kanako fingered the snake ring.
The shopkeepers eyes widened.
Please accept it......no charges......um, please take whatever young miss desires. The shopkeeper gulped.
This shocked Kanako. Obviously the ring meant something, and that shopkeeper feared Shang Tsung.
This is why he gave it to me! Kanako thought to herself and she felt a sense of pride. I can have whatever I want and I dont have to pay for it! She smiled evilly and went back to freeloading from the store.
I wonder if they have Malice Mizer CDs here...... she thought.
Malice Mizer was her favorite band. Kanako was the only one in her town who liked them and it was quite hard to get soundtracks.
She made her way back to Shang Tsungs Palace and wondered what she should do next, but it was as if Shang Tsung read her mind, for he appeared next to her.
You are back. He said emotionlessly.
Yeah, hey, do people......FEAR you? They gave me this stuff, free of charge......
Shang Tsung sneered. You dont know half of what control I have over people of Outworld.
Thats really cool. Thats awesome. Kanako murmured.
If one has eternal life, why not do something interesting and worthwhile.
Hmm, I guess so......hey, erm, I'm sort of hungry, do you have servants to cook food? Im a terrible cook, I would be better at it, but I absolutely can't stand Megumi and being in her presence."
Who is this Megumi? he inquired of her.
Erm......well, Kanako felt odd, she hating speaking of herself but now owed him some sort of explanation. She really hated Megumi more than talking about herself, so she figured Why not, it might get me closer to him......and maybe get free tuition at the Misaki Academy.
I do the cooking myself, Kanako. Never trust your servants to make food for you. They can't be trusted. There are too many people out to get you when you have a position like mine." He told her.
"Ah, yes, I understand completely!"
"While you were out shopping, I started the meal, so you can tell me about Megumi during dinner."
"Ok, whatever it is, I'm sure that I'll appreciate it much more than anything Megumi ever made." Kanako told him.
Kanako first met Megumi and Kei Yoshida when she forgot who she was in the Earthrealm. She knew her name was Kanako because she held a notebook with her name in it. But there was no last name.
Kanako definitely didnt want to share that info with Shang Tsung.
Its not like I want to hide it, I just dont want him to distrust me, its not like Ill drain his essence......but... Kanako thought to herself.
Megumi wanted to take in the poor child and thusly was the sole reason she lived with them. Megumi and Kei had a son, Ryo, who would be Kanakos brother.
Megumi and Kei died only eight months ago and Ryo and Kanako were left the Yoshida estate and assets.
